Wordle players can log into the New York Times Games site every day and pit themselves against a brand-new word. In order to win as often as possible, some players might need a little help with the game's rules and strategies or even help with the answer.
How To Play Wordle
As a quick note: There are many versions of Wordle and Wordle-like games out on the internet. Its simple premise and massive popularity made it ripe for copying and cloning. In order to play the original, head to the New York Times Games site or Crossword app. While other versions can be fun, they will have different answers than what is listed here and might have different rules as well. The rules of Wordle are quite simple, and they start with a five-letter word. This word:
- Must be a real word.
- Should contain five different letters.
- Should have at least two vowels.
- Should not be a plural noun ending in S.
- Should not be a previous Wordle answer.
Type the word into the Wordle site or app, and then press enter using the on-board keyboard or the device's keyboard. This will cause the letters of the starting Wordle word to change colors.
- Letters that turn green are right and in the right place in the word.
- Letters that become gray are incorrect and won't be in the answer.
- Letters that turn yellow are right but in the wrong position in the word.
Given these clues, try a new word and get new color-coded hints. Players have a total of six tries to guess the answer before they lose. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time based on the time on the player's device.
