How To Play Wordle

There are tons of Wordle clones and copycats out on the internet because of the game's massive popularity and fairly simple setup. From straight-up copies to themed clones like the Pokemon Wordle called Squirdle. In order to play the version written about here, players will want to find the New York Times Games version; this is the original version that the newspaper giant bought from an indie dev. Other versions of Wordle will have different answers and may have slightly different rules for how to play.

First, choose a starter word. This word must be five letters long, must be a real English word, and cannot be a plural noun. While they can be used as guesses, both plural nouns ending in S and previous Wordle answers cannot be the answer for today, so the player should avoid them. Choose a word with five different letters in them and at least two vowels.
Type it into the Wordle grid with the on-board keyboard or the device's keyboard.
Press enter.
The letters of the word will change colors, and each color means something different.
Green letters are right, gray letters are wrong, and yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.
Try a new word, and players will get new clues.
Keep trying words until the answer is guessed, or the player runs out of their six total tries.
