How To Play Wordle

Wordle is owned and operated by the New York Times Games. The newspaper purchased it from an indie developer back in early 2022, and it is still hosted on its Games site and Crossword app. This article is all about the NYT version; other versions won't have the same answers that are written here. Some other versions, like the themed versions, even have slightly altered rules as well.

To start, players should choose their Wordle starting word. This word:

Must be five letters long.
Must be a real word.
Should have five different letters in it.
Should not be an offensive word.
Should not be a plural noun ending in S.
Should not be a previous Wordle answer.

Next, they'll need to type the starter word into the site and watch as the color of the letters changes. Each color means a different thing.

Green means the letter is correct.
Gray means the letter is incorrect.
Yellow means the letter is right but in the wrong place in the word.

After that, players will need to choose a new word that fits all the clues above and type it into the Wordle grid. The letters of this word will then change colors too. Players have a total of six tries to get to the answer before they lose. There is only one word for everyone every day, and the puzzle resets at midnight local time.
