Summary
- Mario Kart World features at least 202 unique alternate routes, according to one dedicated player.
- This equates to over 10 hours of gameplay.
- Mario Kart World was released alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.
A dedicated Mario Kart World player has discovered over 200 alternate routes while playing through Nintendo’s newest mascot kart racer. Mario Kart World was released as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title late last week, both by itself and as part of a special Switch 2 console bundle. Either way, Mario Kart World brings back all of the thrills of past entries with a much wider scope befitting its title.
Unlike previous Mario Kart games, the tracks in Mario Kart World are all connected in a semi-open world that players can explore between races in the game’s new Free Roam mode. The courses themselves are also much larger than those of Mario Kart World’s predecessors, to the point where players can discover alternate routes and chart out the quickest path to victory. This naturally adds an element of experimentation to Mario Kart World’s arcade-style racing action, as well as some variety to repeated runs through the many different circuits and game modes.
Mario Kart World Checks a Big Item Off Players' Wish Lists
Mario Kart World stays true to its title and finally allows players to roam freely, as many fans have requested for a long time.
Shortly after Mario Kart World launched on June 5, a dedicated player by the handle of Getlucky set out to find as many of these alternate track routes as possible. After spending about a day racing through the game, they revealed in a Twitter post that Mario Kart World has 202 unique routes between its 30 different tracks. As demonstrated in a YouTube video of Getlucky driving through these routes, it takes about 10 hours to race through all of them, starting from the new Mario Bros. Circuit all the way to the infamously punishing Rainbow Road.
Mario Kart World Player Discovers 202 Alternate Routes
Getlucky acknowledges that there might be even more hidden routes in Mario Kart World that they just haven’t found yet, but the effort they took to discover the ones featured in the video is certainly impressive - especially since the game itself has only been out for a few days as of this writing. Other Mario Kart World fans have complimented them for their dedication to finding these alternate pathways, with some even asking for someone to rank them someday.
Mario Kart World might be the biggest game in the long-running Mario Kart franchise in many ways, and it is already getting warm reviews from fans and critics alike. As one of the first games released for the new Nintendo Switch 2 console, Mario Kart World also serves as a launch point for the next era of Nintendo gaming, which seems to be off to a promising start.
