One of the coolest new features of Mario Kart World is the ability to get skins for just about every character. Once unlocked, new Mario Kart World costumes for every character are listed in the character roster as separate entries, and it doesn't take long to get every skin in Mario Kart World if you know how to farm outfits.

How To Perform Tricks In Mario Kart World (& Why You Should)

Like in previous Mario Kart titles, in Mario Kart World Tricks can be performed after jumps to trigger a boost when you land.

This guide explains the two methods you can use to get skins in Mario Kart World, as well as a brief explanation of a way to farm costumes Mario Kart World players can take advantage of.

How To Unlock Skins In Mario Kart World

There are two methods to unlock new skins in Mario Kart World: by using, or getting hit by, a Kamek item, or by finding and consuming Dash Food items. You can find Dash Food items in free roam or normal race modes, while Kamek can only be found during races as combat items are turned off in free roam.

Get Hit By A Kamek Orb Item

The easiest way to unlock costumes Mario Kart World offers is to simply get hit by a Kamek item during a race. These purple orbs with Kamek's face on them are more likely to come out of Item Boxes for players in the latter half of the pack during a race. When used, they will soar past every racer in front of you and transform them.

Most of the time, being hit by Kamek will unlock a new character for your Mario Kart World character roster. But rarely you will transform into a costumed version of your current character or a costumed variant of another. When you are hit by Kamek, you will permanently unlock the character or the skin you were transformed into.

Find And Use Food Items In Races Or Free Roam

If you want to farm skins, Mario Kart World also makes this relatively easy thanks to the Dash Food item. This item can be found during races (keep an eye out for the glowing food bag, typically off to the side of the track), or at Yoshi's Diner buildings in free roam.

How To Grind Rails & Ride Walls In Mario Kart World

To ride walls and grind rails, Mario Kart World players must perform specific inputs with specific timing.

When you pick one up, a random Food item will be generated. Consume the Food item you get to receive a small boost like a Dash Mushroom and possibly transform into a new skin. Depending on who you are playing as, and what Food item you consumed, you may transform into a new costume. From then on, that costume will be permanently unlocked in your character roster.

Most humanoid characters have numerous new skins Mario Kart World players can unlock, but non-human characters (like Cow, Spike, and other Mario enemies-turned-racers) have far fewer, or none at all.

There is a trick to farm skins in Mario Kart World. Enter Free Roam, then drive until you find a Yoshi's Diner building. Pick up the Dash Food as you normally would, consume it for a chance to get a costume, then drive back to the spot where the Dash Food spawned and wait for it to spawn again.

Repeat this until you unlock all costumes for your character, then swap to another character in your roster and keep picking up and consuming Dash Food to unlock their skins. You can continue farming costumes by following this method until you unlock all Mario Kart World characters skins!
