Summary

  • Marvel Snap is a popular digital card game that allows players to create their own roster of Avengers and collect their favorite heroes.
  • Marvel Future Revolution is an action RPG mobile game that offers players the chance to play as their favorite Avengers characters in a multiversal Marvel Universe.
  • LEGO Marvel's Avengers is the best overall Avengers game, with over 200 playable characters and levels based on MCU films, providing a fun and immersive experience.

Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done plenty to raise the profile of the Avengers without video games, there have been a number over the years in which they have starred alongside many of the other great Marvel Comics heroes that fans love.

Avengers. X-Men.
Marvel: Best Superhero Teams

Solo superheroes are plenty of fun, but seeing these teams work together to save the day is an even more exciting journey.

The video gaming industry was a great place for comic book characters in the 90s, and though it is a little less easy to fascinate gamers with the idea of fighting as their favorite superheroes in today’s world of gaming, there are still some great games available featuring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for fans to revisit and fall back in love with.

7 Captain America And The Avengers

Captain America And The Avengers

This classic beat-em-up game is surprisingly one of the few Marvel games of that style. In the 1990s, these games were commonplace, and similar franchises like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took full advantage. However, Marvel Comics characters didn’t star in nearly as many as they could have.

Still, Captain America And The Avengers was a great version of the side-scrolling beat-em-up game. The playable characters included Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Vision, and enemies included familiar names to modern Marvel fans such as The Mandarin, Ultron, and Red Skull.

6 Avengers Initiative

Avengers Initiative

There haven’t been many fascinating Marvel and Avengers games for mobiles, but Avengers Initiative managed to set itself apart in some interesting ways. Crossing over with Marvel: Avengers Alliance due to the “Marvel XP” that carried over, players were able to gain rewards in one through the other, making for a fascinating progression system.

The fighting system in the game was fun and made for one of the better outright fighting games available on mobile stores at the time. While Avengers Initiative has since been shut down, this will be remembered as one of the most interesting mobile superhero games ever released.

Digital Card Game

Not as such an Avengers game, but one of the biggest appeals of Marvel Snap for players has been bringing together their own roster of Avengers in a unique team. This digital card game has managed to gain and retain a lot of popularity since it was released, addicting players as they seek to collect more of their favorite heroes.

Card games are nothing new, and digital card games are all the easier to get into nowadays, meaning that players can collect hundreds of cards and own many of the beloved Avengers and other Marvel characters without having to spend as much money as they used to on real cards. Marvel Snap is complicated to get used to, but excellent if players can get started.

4 Marvel Future Revolution

Marvel Future Revolution

Another mobile game that has had a lot of popularity since being released in 2021, Marvel Future Revolution is an action RPG that allows players to take control of one of their favorite heroes in a futuristic world based on the Secret Wars storyline from Marvel Comics.

These are some of the best superhero games with incredible plotlines.

Future Revolution is a fascinating game, with many Marvel characters including most of the Avengers available as playable characters. There are worlds controlled by HYDRA and ones settled by Asgardians, this multiversal version of the Marvel Universe providing a chance for some wonderful storytelling. Unfortunately, Marvel Future Revolution was also shut down eventually, in June 2023, prompting another great Avengers mobile game to be forgotten.

3 Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth

Avengers Battle For Earth

The only Avengers or Marvel game ever created by Ubisoft, this game was released in place of the original Avengers game that was meant to tie in with the release of the first Avengers movie. When that concept was canceled this was used instead, based on the Secret Invasion storyline from Marvel Comics.

The Skrulls begin replacing Earth’s heroes and the Avengers must unite to stop these aliens from taking over the planet. The gameplay for the Wii U was exceptionally fun as a fighting game with so many stages, and a nice narrative running through it as well that helped make it much more interesting than it might have been if it had merely followed the plot of the Avengers film it was marketed alongside. Despite this, the game struggled to find an audience, like many Marvel games recently.

There were some flaws with the most recent attempt at a standalone, big-budget Avengers game, but nevertheless, it makes for a lot of fun on its own. Marvel’s Avengers was played in third-person, and players were able to take control of different Avengers characters, mostly members of the beloved MCU team, as well as young Kamala Khan.

These Marvel characters have had the most representations in the gaming world.

The game has been criticized for focusing on Kamala over the main Avengers team, and the story of her reassembling them after they have been disbanded for years is an unusual choice. But it was unique, the gameplay was fun and amusing, and there were plenty of post-release updates that included new content and other missions and stories to boot, making this a fun game to try out. Unfortunately, it remains one of the Square Enix games that couldn't find an audience.

Strangely, the very best attempt at creating a game focusing on the Avengers was the LEGO version of the story. This is nothing new, as LEGO adaptions have frequently made amazing versions of different universes over the years by keeping the concepts simple and following the basic ideas of what makes so many characters great.

LEGO- licensed games are always hugely fun, and the Avengers one was no different. With over two hundred playable characters and levels based on many MCU films, from the first two entries in the Avengers franchise to Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor: The Dark World. This great mixture of fun content makes this the best overall Avengers experience in a game to date.
