Marvel Comics and Toho International have revealed the first Cosmic Variant covers for the upcoming Godzilla: Infinity Roar crossover series. Originally announced during New York Comic Con, the five-issue limited Marvel series is being written by Gerry Duggan and drawn by artists Javier Garrón and Ig Guara.
Godzilla: Infinity Roar sees a crossover between iconic Marvel characters like Captain Marvel, Galactus, and Thanos face off against cosmic kaiju threats like Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan. Following the defeat of Godzilla in Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, the King of Monsters is reawakened by Knull, the God of Symbiotes. Now these two kings are teaming up for a cosmic conquest, and fans can celebrate with beautifully illustrated cover variants for each issue.
Godzilla: Infinity Roar is Getting Cosmic Variants for All 5 Issues
Marvel and Godzilla fans will be able to get their hands on Godzilla: Infinity Roar when issue #1 releases on February 24. Each of the series' issues will feature a unique cover variant that features a Marvel character battling a kaiju foe. These match-ups include:
- Captain Marvel Vs. Mothra
- Galactus Vs. King Ghidorah
- Cosmic Ghost Rider Vs. Destroyah
- Thanos Vs. Rodan
- Phoenix Vs. Mechagodzilla
The first three of these covers have been revealed, showing Captain Marvel locked in battle against Mothra, Galactus surrounded by the many heads of King Ghidorah, and Cosmic Ghost Rider riding toward Destroyah with his Hellfire Chains at the ready. The Captain Marvel Vs. Mothra Cosmic Variant cover is illustrated by Paulo Siqueira, the Galactus Vs. King Ghidorah Cosmic Variant cover is illustrated by Junggeun Yoon, and the Cosmic Ghost Rider Vs. Destroyah Cosmic Variant Cover is illustrated by Dave Rapoza.
Paulo Siqueira is a tenured comic book artist with credits in both DC and Marvel Comics. His most iconic works include 2023's Venom Lethal Protector 2 run cover art and the cover art 2022's Star Wars: Hidden Empire. Junggeun Yoon's cover illustrations for Marvel include 2019's The Web of Black Widow and 2020's Spider-Woman. Dave Rapoza has illustrated covers for Marvel series like 2015's Secret Wars 2099 and 2019's Spider-Verse.
Although these Cosmic Cover variants don't reveal the victors of the showdown between Marvel's cosmic icons and the deadly kaiju that threaten them, fans can get a sense of how these battles may play out. Captain Marvel appears to be dealing with the energy beams that Mothra can shoot from her antennae. Galactus, on the other hand, seems to be struggling against King Ghidorah's electricity manipulation. Cosmic Ghost Rider appears to have an advantage against Destroyah, as he can be seen riding headlong into the kaiju while readying his Hellfire Chains.
Godzilla: Infinity Roar Has Yet to Reveal 2 of the 5 Cosmic Variant Covers
There are still more Cosmic Variant covers yet to be revealed, with Thanos Vs. Rodan and Phoenix Vs. Mechagodzilla still missing from the line-up. Marvel and Toho International have not announced when these covers will be revealed, but fans can likely expect to see them before their May 2026 and June 2026 releases, respectively. These Cosmic Variant covers will be illustrated by E.J. Su and Mark Brooks, respectively.
Fans who want to get an idea of what these upcoming cover art variants might look like can take a look at Su's illustrations for 2022's Ultraman: The Mystery of Ultraseven. For the final Phoenix Vs. Mechagodzilla Cosmic Variant cover, fans need to look no further than the previous series, Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, released earlier this year. These covers have the flavor of an epic monster movie that Godzilla is known for, and fans will have to pick up an issue to see how these kaijus stack up against Marvel's mightiest cosmic characters.
