Team-based hero shooter Marvel Rivals has released a new trailer showcasing cosmic being Adam Warlock in action. Although Warlock's inclusion in Marvel Rivals was announced over a month ago, this is the first time fans are getting a good look at what he'll be able to do in the game.
Co-created by comic legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Warlock made his first comic book appearance in September 1967 in Fantastic Four #66, although at the time, he was known only as Him, an artificially created cosmic entity designed by a group of Earth scientists as a prototype for the next stage of human evolution. While he wouldn't take up the name Adam Warlock until Marvel Premiere #1 in April 1972, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans may still recognize Adam Warlock from his appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, in which he initially attacks the team before ultimately joining forces.
Marvel Rivals' Roster Could Be Good News for Future Marvel Games
Marvel Rivals is set to launch with an impressive roster, which may offer clues on which heroes and villains Marvel may prioritize in the future.
Warlock's inclusion in Marvel Rivals' roster was first revealed on May 30, at the same time Venom was announced. While Venom already received his own Marvel Rivals character trailer last week, the game has followed up by providing Warlock with one of his own on July 19. The trailer shows Warlock as a Strategist character, using his cosmic powers to both heal teammates and dish out damage with both rapid-fire blasts and charged powers. He also appears to be able to take an incorporeal form to deal an area-of-effect attack around him, and can also be seen resurrecting multiple allies at once.

Warlock is just one of many familiar faces joining the title's superpowered cast. Early roster leaks for Marvel Rivals have shown 21 playable characters, though more may be added in the future. While Warlock falls into the more obscure category along with characters like Magik and Luna Snow, the game will also boast mainstream heroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Black Panther, and will incorporate villains like Magneto and Venom.
No official release date has been revealed for the game, but the Marvel Rivals closed beta is scheduled to run from July 23 through August 5, with a special six-on-six tournament running from July 30 to August 4. While console registrations for the beta began in June, Steam users can sign up beginning July 20 by selecting Request Access under Join Marvel Rivals Playtest.
