Like many PvP hero shooters, Marvel Rivals empowers players to come up with unique strategies and improve their skills with different roles. It also features a diverse lineup of Marvel heroes with abilities that match the original characters' superpowers. Although Marvel Rivals only came out a month ago, it's already poised to make a lasting impression among fans of hero shooters.

Developer NetEase Games is continuously working to improve the overall experience, from resolving Marvel Rivals' bugs and glitches to introducing features and events that avid players can engage with. In that vein, many fans are also requesting one important feature to be added to the game: a mnimap.

Marvel Rivals Players Could Navigate Better With a Minimap

Marvel Rivals leak reveals Mister Fantastic, The Thing, The Invisible Woman, and Human Torch could be coming to the game in Season 1

Marvel Rivals' current rotation of maps varies depending on the game modes, and they are inspired by iconic Marvel Comics locations, like Wakanda and Asgard. The maps are compact yet spacious enough to provide spots for players to plan out their next move, especially if they're using long-ranged heroes like Hawkeye and Iron Man. They also have many destructible structures for the right amount of surprise and chaos.

As players invest more time in Marvel Rivals, they'll naturally get used to the maps' layout as they plan the best attack and defense mechanisms for each location. However, some players are also calling for Marvel Rivals to add a minimap to help make navigation easier during matches, especially for newer players who are still getting used to all the maps. One player named greazyrobot also shared a compelling case on Reddit that a minimap could also provide helpful information on the location of allies and enemies, which could help with situational awareness during competitive matches. It's similar to how Valorant has minimaps for its different maps that guide players on their next move, and empower them to assist their teammates by pinpointing where they last saw their opponents. The Marvel Rivals fan also emphasized that this feature could be a great way to invite newcomers to try out the game without getting lost or intimidated by the locations.

Meanwhile, there seems to be some hesitance from other Marvel Rivals players, who expressed that adding a minimap would be a bad idea for the game. In another Reddit post, many players said they don't see the need for a minimap, citing that they don't want their opponents to see their locations when they're in their line of sight. Some also wrote it off as players "not paying attention" to their surroundings, adding that they should adjust the audio settings and advised them to not get overwhelmed by the chaotic fights in front of them.

The sentiments are definitely mixed about a potential minimap feature in Marvel Rivals. While it is true that some hero shooters like Overwatch lack minimaps in order to encourage players to be present in fast-paced fights, it doesn't necessarily mean that Marvel Rivals should follow the lead of its predecessors. It has a lot of room to stand out from the rest, and perhaps it could even benefit from such a feature, even if it's only available in Marvel Rivals' Quick Matches in order to cater to casual players and newbies.

At the same time, there is also some truth to what Marvel Rivals fans said about the importance of listening to their surroundings and keeping an eye on enemies during matches. Many Marvel Rivals matches don't last very long, and a minimap might turn into a distraction for players during matches.

An average Marvel Rivals match can be about 10-15 minutes, depending on the game mode and the overall match pace.

It's still unknown if developer NetEase Games will consider the requests for a minimap in Marvel Rivals. Perhaps one plausible way it can be pulled off is to either give players the option to toggle the feature on and off in the settings, or to make the feature exclusive to Quick Matches. Whichever method could be a good way to cater to Marvel Rivals players of all skill levels without alienating the other.
