While Marvel Rivals is a competitive game at its very core, it doesn't shy away from featuring a few casual game modes. The release of Season 1 introduced Doom Match, a fairly simple game mode that should give players a proper space to practice their individual mechanics.

Doom Match isn't exactly what one would consider a staple game mode in Marvel Rivals. It's not the most competitive of options, but it's there for anyone who's looking to grind out their battle passes or just have a bit of fun in between ranked games. Here's what you need to know about this game mode.

What is Marvel Rivals' Doom Match Mode?

Basically, Doom Match is a free-for-all deathmatch where players race to get 16 Final Hits. Everyone is free to pick whichever Marvel Rivals character they want, and there are no teams — every player is free game, so expect rampant chaos in every match.

The lobby is split into two brackets with six players each. The upper half are the match's winners, while the bottom half are the losers. Competition for the sixth spot is likely to be the fiercest, though if you're already on the top five, you should be good for the rest of the match (assuming you can keep your position).

The Doom Match mode features the Sanctum Sanctorum map, a veritable maze of halls, corridors, and portals leading in and out of Doctor Strange's home. This map can be a little confusing, but it has space for all heroes to excel in. Learn the map, know where to play, and do your best!

What's the Point of Doom Match?

Doom Match can be considered an Arcade mode like Conquest (the TDM mode). Apart from being in the game for fun, it's a great place to warm up. Playing Doom Match via the matchmaking queue will eventually land you in the usual race to reach the top six spots. However, if you queue up for a Doom Match via the Practice menu, you'll end up in an hour-long lobby with no rules. From here, you can practice to your heart's content without worrying about winning or losing.

How to Trigger Portals in Marvel Rivals Doom Match

In Marvel Rivals Season 1, players have a mission to trigger portals while in a Doom Match. To do this, find and interact with the purple rifts scattered across the map. You can usually find these in the outdoor area. Just trigger them until the mission is complete. This objective might reappear as part of events or normal daily missions, so it's best that players know how to do this to get some extra Marvel Rivals currencies like Lattices and Units.

Triggering these portals will only count if you play a Doom Match via the Change Mode menu, not the one in the Practice Menu.
