Unquestionably, the most thrilling aspect of Marvel Rivals for casual players, much less devout Marvel fans who’ve adopted the 6v6 hero shooter genre with the former at the forefront of their interests, is speculating and learning about what new characters might be added. Countless iconic characters have their own beloved corners of the Marvel community who’ve yet to join; for instance, Marvel Rivals’ Daredevil has been one of players’ most highly anticipated characters, and is finally becoming playable in Season 4.5, though he may not be quite as familiar as some would imagine him to be.
Marvel Rivals has had interesting ways of teasing upcoming characters before, such as revealing Blade as a part of map environments and gallery serial lore long before he became playable in Season 3.5. It’s neat to have a bit of insight as to subsequent seasons and the overarching narrative, and some players have even believed that a couple of cosmetics introduced in Season 4’s Battle Pass are teasing one kinetically inclined Cajun. That’s incorrect, unfortunately, yet there ironically might not be an arduous wait for him after all in Marvel Rivals’ near future.
Marvel Rivals’ Old Man Hawkeye MVP isn’t Teasing Who You Think It is
Marvel Rivals recently offered a greater glimpse at its upcoming Season 4 Battle Pass, Fruit of Immortality, which launches on September 12 alongside Season 4.0 itself. And, players who’ve been following news and information about Fruit of Immortality, such as in early access previews, will already be aware that Hawkeye is receiving a skin inspired by the Old Man Hawkeye comic book run.
What players may have noticed is that an Old Man Hawkeye spray, as well as the skin’s MVP, available in the Battle Pass features an arrow slicing through a playing card—an ace of spades.
Now, to those uninitiated with Old Man Hawkeye, as is likely the case with a majority of Marvel Rivals’ playerbase, it would seem as if these playing cards, at least with no other implicit answer as to what relevance they have to Clint Barton, could belong to Remy LeBeau, also known as Gambit. However, the ace of spades is quite literally an inspired draw from the deck of Old Man Hawkeye, as is appropriate for the skin and its related cosmetics, particularly when Hawkeye strikes Bullseye—another card-tossing character—in the eye with an arrow that splits the card in half.
This will surely be disappointing lore to learn about for anyone who’s been praying for Gambit to grace Marvel Rivals’ character roster. But, if rumors and contextual clues from Marvel Rivals’ own gallery serial lore are to be believed, there may be no reason to fret for much longer.
Gambit May Be Joining Marvel Rivals Sooner Rather Than Later
Gambit joining Marvel Rivals has always been a ‘when,’ not an ‘if,’ and there is a credible source that probably transparently alludes to him arriving imminently. According to leaked lore from Season 4, which will be unveiled publicly in a mere couple of days, the final line from a gallery card would seemingly refer to both Gambit and Rogue:
“And if you play your cards right and they don’t drain every last bit of your life force, I may make an appearance at your next tournament myself...”
While a Gambit and Rogue pairing could be phenomenal as the two are an item in traditional Marvel lore, it’s unknown, if true, whether they’d be arriving in Season 5 or later on. Debuting lovers back-to-back in two halves of a season would be quite special in a romance-themed event around Valentine’s Day, for example, but that’d theoretically land them in Season 6, as February is five months from now. Either way, it’ll be exciting to see if Gambit does make his way into Marvel Rivals following Season 4, not to mention a hypothetical Bullseye, who is indeed referenced in the Old Man Hawkeye MVP, as he, too, deserves to be added now that Daredevil will be playable this October.
