There are already quite a few different currencies in Marvel Rivals, and yet another one has been added to the game in the form of Unstable Molecules. These can be used to purchase color swaps of existing Marvel Rivals legendary skins, and players will even be able to earn them for free while playing the game.

Many people thought that the costume colors added to Marvel Rivals would be free for those who own the supported legendary skins, but that's not the case. All legendary skin color swaps cost Unstable Molecules. Thankfully, some existing currencies can be exchanged for Unstable Molecules, so players don't have to spend too much money, and more ways to earn them will be added in future Marvel Rivals updates.

How to Get Unstable Molecules in Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals Costume Colors-1

Unstable Molecules can be obtained by exchanging Lattice, the premium currency in Marvel Rivals. This is currently the only way to get Unstable Molecules in Marvel Rivals. Lattice can also be exchanged for Units to buy cosmetics from the in-game store, but Units can't be converted back into Lattice. As such, players should plan their purchases ahead of time so they don't accidentally convert all their Lattice into Units, preventing them from purchasing Unstable Molecules.

While Unstable Molecules are currently a premium-only currency in Marvel Rivals, there will eventually be more ways to earn them. NetEase has confirmed that more ways to earn Unstable Molecules without spending money are coming to the game in Season 3, but details are scarce regarding these methods. Whether they'll be challenge rewards or show up on Battle Pass pages remains to be seen.

How to Spend Unstable Molecules in Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals Luna Snow Color Swap

Once players have some Unstable Molecules in Marvel Rivals, they can be exchanged for costume color swaps on the Customization tab of the Heroes menu. Only certain skins are supported at the moment, and more legendary skins will be getting new color palettes as time goes on.

If players own a supported legendary skin like Luna Snow's Mirae 2099 outfit or Magik's Punkchild outfit, they can purchase a new costume color for 600 Unstable Molecules. That's just a bit cheaper than a standard recolor purchased with Units from the in-game store. A legendary skin must be owned in order to purchase color swaps for it, so there's no way to buy just the color swap on its own. The default color is required, and the additional colors are extra purchases on top of that.

While it's a bit disappointing that Marvel Rivals skin recolors are this expensive, many players are at least excited to see what color swaps the future will bring. Only the most popular heroes like Psylocke and a small selection of skins are supported at the moment, but NetEase will surely expand the costume color system to the entire roster eventually.
