Moon Knights's abilities allow him to deal massive damage to enemy heroes when grouped up. Since his basic attacks ricochet between nearby targets, Moon Knight specializes in controlling choke points on the map, preventing access. On top of that, he also has plenty of mobility abilities to get to high ground and stay out of the opponent's reach.
How to Play Moon Knight in Marvel Rivals
Moon Knight's primary job as a Duelist is to apply pressure by consistently dealing damage to the enemy team, and securing picks through clever use of his kit. All of his abilities synergize well with each other, and to inflict the most DPS, you'll want to chain them in the correct sequence, depending on the situation.
Moon Knight's basic attacks have a special effect that allows the Crescent Darts to bounce between enemies, dealing additional damage. Since the attacks also chain and bounce with the Ancient Ankh, you'll be able to place it at choke points and whittle down your opponent's health from a safe angle. It’s a highly overpowered ability when the enemy team can not destroy the Ankhs with ease, so placement of these objects is key.
Moon Knight's secondary, Moon Blade, launches another projectile with a wider AOE. Like Crescent Dart, this ability also chains between enemies and the Ancient Ankh, allowing you to inflict massive damage if you bounce it off two or three heroes. This is great for knocking down a wider chunk of damage to finish off a kill or begin applying huge pressure through a chokepoint, by hitting Moon Blade, then spamming primary fire.
The enemy team can destroy Ancient Ankh with basic attacks.
Ancient Ankh also has a secondary effect. When you launch it, enemy heroes caught in its radius get knocked up and pulled towards its center. While the disable lasts only for a short duration, it can help set up other abilities, such as your ultimate.
Moon Knight's melee works a bit differently than other heroes. Dubbed the Triple Eclipse, your melee allows you to launch up the enemy hero every third attack. While the damage isn't amazing, you can use it to trickle down the last bit of health of an enemy you corner during a fight.
When it comes to mobility, Moon Knight has multiple tools at his disposal. This hero has a double jump with a 6-second cooldown called Rising Leap. While airborne, Moon Knight can use the Night Glider to glide slowly to reach high ground or escape the enemy.
Night Glider has no cooldown and can be activated as long as Moon Knight is airborne.
However, the biggest movement ability at his disposal is the Moonlight Hook. Essentially, it lets you launch a grappling hook on a target location to pull you towards it quickly. You can also use Rising Leap midair and follow up with the Night Glider to cover massive distances if you need to rush to the objective.
Moon Knight's Team-up Ability with Cloak & Dagger allows Moon Night to turn invisible with the press of a button. The Invisibility doesn't break even while attacking. However, it has a long cooldown, and the invisibility duration isn't all too great. So don't stress too much about activating this Team-Up combo.
Tips and Tricks for Playing Moon Knight in Marvel Rivals
- Moon Knight's Ankhs can be placed on any surface - walls, floors, and ceilings. By positioning your Ankhs in spots that are hard for the enemy to reach, such as just out of reach at the entrance of a narrow hall or chokepoint, you can significantly increase the value you get from them.
- While it may be tempting to simply shoot the stationary Ankhs for damage as they are easier to hit, Moon Knight actually does more damage when you hit the enemies, as the primary fire will hit them first, then bounce off the Ankh and back to them. For this reason, learning to improve your projectile aim will significantly improve your gameplay and even give you more chances of survival when Ankh is on cooldown.
- Moon Knight has the advantage of being able to set up in hidden spots and farm damage from behind cover or unreachable high grounds. You'll want to get the high-ground advantage by using Rising Leap and Moonlight Hook.
- Moon Knight should always look to play from these points of advantage, as he does poorly in the melee range or when he is surrounded by multiple enemies.
- You can aim Moonlight Hook at the ground below Moon Knight to leap up into the air. In tricky situations, use this to make a quick getaway and potentially save yourself from dying.
- By using your Cloak & Dagger Team-Up invisibility, you will momentarily become invulnerable to all attacks and abilities. With careful timing, this can be used to survive certain enemy Ultimates or key cooldowns.
- A perfectly placed Moon Knight Ultimate can kill some enemy Strategist Ultimates, notably Luna Snow and Mantis.
Notable Moon Knight Ultimate Combos in Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals is a team game, meaning communicating and working with your team is key. This can be done by taking space together, focusing on the same targets, making good callouts, and combining your abilities to gain more value. Ultimate Abilities are some of the best to pair together in the game, and can often result in a total team wipe, or completely change the outcome of a game. Here are some key Ultimate Combos for Moon Knight.
- Groot's Ultimate pulls in all nearby enemies and locks them in place for a while. As Moon Knight's Ultimate is an AOE damage field, the clever pairing of these abilities can completely wipe a team.
- The same approach can be taken with Doctor Strange's Eye of Agamotto - especially as those who are affected are essentially stunned and cannot fight back.
- Emma Frost's Ultimate forces affected enemies to become uncontrollable and walk right towards her. Moon Knight can make the most of this and cause them to walk right into the AOE of his own Ult.
- The Thing can create terrain that denies any movement abilities, making it hard for anyone to escape - especially the likes of highly mobile dive heroes such as Spider-Man or Black Panther. Situationally, Moon Knight may be able to get value out of pairing his Ult under these circumstances.
