Participants of the ongoing Marvel Rivals closed beta have discovered an exploit involving the newly added Jeff the Land Shark hero that can essentially restrict enemy players from being able to do anything during matches. The latest playtest for Marvel Rivals, which is available on the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, ends on August 5.
Developed and published by NetEase Games, Marvel Rivals is an upcoming 6v6 shooter that will feature a variety of heroes and villains from Marvel's vast repository of comic book properties. The Unreal Engine 5-powered title now has 23 confirmed fighters in its roster of playable characters following the recent introduction of Thor and Jeff the Land Shark in the Marvel Rivals beta. Players have discovered, however, that Jeff has access to an exploit that can basically render an enemy useless.
As shown in a clip uploaded by Twitch streamer bogur, Marvel Rivals players can use Jeff the Land Shark's ultimate ability, It's Jeff, to transport an enemy character to their spawn point. Only allies can pass through base barriers, so any player unfortunate enough to become a victim of this tactic essentially gets trapped inside their opponents' spawn point unless they die or leave the match. Other problems have been reported, and the Marvel Rivals team has addressed several of these issues in a statement.

There have also been complaints about one of the playtest's rewards, the Tooth and Hammer spray, given to those who reach Gold rank in the Marvel Rivals beta. While the cosmetic will carry over to the finished game, some playtesters expressed their disappointment over the reward. In the full release of NetEase's upcoming third-person hero shooter, rewards from the title's competitive ranked mode will be based on a player's final seasonal rank, and they will be handed out at the end of a season.
Despite its issues, the Marvel Rivals closed beta has managed to attract a lot of players. The latest data from SteamDB showed that the game has reached close to 84,000 concurrent players, and it seems like that number will only go up from here.
The most recent playtest for Marvel Rivals includes a special in-game event called Galacta's Quest that allows players to obtain special rewards. One of these rewards is the beta-exclusive Cyan Clash costume for Venom that, like the Tooth and Hammer spray, will carry over to the launch version of the game. As of writing, Marvel Rivals, which is also coming to MacOS, still has no exact release date.
