Marvel Rivals is still going very strong six months after launch, regularly pulling in over 100,000 players a day on Steam alone. That continued success is thanks in no small part to NetEase's consistency when it comes to delivering new content. Marvel Rivals is currently partway through Season 2.5, and while new playable hero Ultron was a tad divisive at launch, he's quickly become one of the most powerful characters in the current meta.

Of course, Marvel Rivals doesn't just deliver new heroes every season and a half. There are plenty of content updates that come in between, many of which bring new skins to the hero shooter. Marvel Rivals' next skin drop is imminent, and it's adding spectacular outfits for both Iron Fist and Moon Knight, the latter of which could be a not-so-subtle tease for Marvel Rivals Season 3's next hero.

The newly announced Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls features its own Captain America, and it differs quite heavily from the one in Marvel Rivals.

Moon Knight's New Skin Could Tease One of Marvel Rivals Season 3's New Heroes

Moon Knight's Phoenix Knight Skin Explained

On June 19 at 7PM PDT, Marvel Rivals will be adding a new costume for Moon Knight titled "Phoenix Knight." The official price of this new Marvel Rivals cosmetic hasn't been confirmed just yet, but if it's an Epic-rarity skin, then fans can expect to spend around 1,400 Units.

Though the skin's design is an original creation for Marvel Rivals, the Phoenix Knight outfit is seemingly inspired by a 2020 Avengers comic run that sees Khonshu attempting to protect the world from Mephisto by ruling over it. To achieve his goal of world domination, Khonshu commands Moon Knight to gather the greatest powers in the Marvel universe. Moon Knight steals Mjolnir, takes the power of the Iron Fist, and eventually even becomes a host to the all-powerful Phoenix Force before relinquishing it to take down Khonshu.

Moon Knight's Skin Could be Teasing Jean Grey

But Marvel Rivals' Phoenix Knight costume is quite different from the one he wears during the 2020 Avengers run. Instead, Marvel Rivals' version of the suit seems to be more directly inspired by the X-Men's Jean Grey, the Marvel hero most often associated with the Phoenix Force. The Phoenix Knight skin features a prominent red and gold color scheme, which echoes Jean's Dark Phoenix outfit.

There might be more to this Marvel Rivals skin than a mere reference, however. Barely a week after Marvel Rivals launched, a sizable roster of upcoming heroes was leaked online. Jean Grey was one of the names on the list, right alongside fellow X-Men heroes like Cyclops, Beast, and Professor X. Leaks should always be taken with a pinch of salt, but the names on this leaked list are being ticked off, very slowly, one by one.

Iron Fist is getting a skin alongside Moon Knight on June 19. This new outfit is called "Binary Fist," which could be a reference to Captain Marvel's powers. Captain Marvel has also been rumored to appear in Marvel Rivals for quite some time, so there's a possibility NetEase is teasing two upcoming heroes simultaneously with these skins.

More recently, it's been rumored that Jean Grey will fill a Duelist role in Marvel Rivals, one that sees players swapping between her human and Phoenix forms. While in human form, Jean Grey will allegedly be able to use telekinesis and psychic explosions. In Phoenix form, she'll reportedly be able to fly and shoot "Phoenix Rays."

The theme of Marvel Rivals Season 3 hasn't been confirmed yet, and while Season 2 had an X-Men focus, only one new Mutant was added to the roster. There's still plenty of room in Marvel Rivals for more citizens of Krakoa.
