Marvel Rivals is slated for a December 6 release date. As one of the most highly anticipated hero-shooters of 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting further updates from NetEase Games as the launch date draws closer. With a starting lineup of 33 heroes during Season 0 of Marvel Rivals and eight maps, there's already plenty to look forward to.

Of the maps confirmed to be in the game, the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda is the newest addition. In Marvel Comics, Wakanda is the most technologically advanced nation on Earth, with T'Challa and Shuri at the forefront of Vibranium-based innovation. Marvel Rivals builds on this concept, showcasing the empire's near-otherworldly beauty and transforming it into a destructible battleground for its superpowered shooter.

Marvel Rivals Introduces Its Newest Domination Map

Intergalactic Wakanda Debuts As The First New Map Since Marvel Rivals' Beta

A Wakandan-inspired map for Marvel Rivals seemed all but inevitable. In the comics, Birnin T'Challa is the capital city of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, set on the planet of Bast. Fans of Black Panther will likely recognize Bast's statue on the map.

In the game, the interstellar capital of Wakanda will be a Domination map. It features three locations, similar to Yggsgard: Royal Palace. This includes:

  • Warrior Falls
  • Stellar Spaceport
  • Imperial Institute of Science

To secure victory, teams must win two out of three objectives. This can happen non-consecutively. Moreover, for those used to playing King of the Hill or Control modes in other hero-shooters, it's worth noting that ultimate charge carries over between the rounds.

"To secure victory in Marvel Rival's Domination mode, teams must win two out of three objectives."

When Marvel Rivals revealed the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, each area was shown to have ancient designs fused with futuristic technology. Interestingly, adding this map brings the game's total map count to five, which means that at least three are not yet confirmed. At least one of these is designed for Conquest, which is Marvel Rivals' version of Team Deathmatch.

At the moment, the maps in the game include, but won't be limited to:

  • Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya
  • Tokyo 2099: Spider-Islands
  • Yggsgard: Royal Palace
  • Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path
  • Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda

The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda trailer showcases several points of interest. Beyond the mission areas, which teams will aim to capture, there are explorable side rooms and locations, such as the Vibrani-Chronovium Laboratory, Shuri's Bedroom, the Duel Field, and the Duel Preparation Room. Various parts of these environments will be destructible, such as the walls and ceilings.

What the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda Map Means for Marvel Rivals' Future

Developers teased, via an exclusive Discord Q&A livestream in October, that there are several more secrets to uncover. According to NetEase Games, these are aspects that players likely won't expect. While fans can only speculate about what these secrets might entail, they could be related to the map-specific stories in Marvel Rivals, which are intricately woven into the game's overarching narrative.

Similar to Tokyo 2099 and Yggsgard, other Wakandan-based maps may be introduced to Marvel Rivals. Whether this will be in its early seasons remains to be seen. If it does happen, players should expect it to include a different game mode, such as Convoy, Conquest, or Convergence.

Conquest is the only game mode in Marvel Rivals that does not adhere to the 6v6 format. It is not one of the core game modes and isn't included in ranked play.
