A Marvel Rivals player has caught a hard-to-find Silent Hill reference hidden in the hero shooter’s newly arrived Season 1 Darkhold battle pass, but in this case, it wasn’t Agatha all along. The developers behind Marvel Rivals have done an exceptional job at weaving beloved Marvel lore into gameplay, and the flow of updates delivering fresh content to the live-service title has been abundant.
Marvel Rivals first debuted in December 2024 as a free-to-play release and offered 35 playable characters at launch, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Scarlet Witch. The premise revolves around Doctor Doom’s timestream entanglement after meeting his 2099 counterpart, which triggers the creation of new worlds for multiversal heroes and villains to battle on. Marvel Rivals recently hit a new record Steam player count thanks to the launch of Season 1: Eternal Night Falls, which introduced the Fantastic Four, additional maps including Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, and a new Doom Match mode.

Posted on Reddit by FountDooku, in-game screenshots were posted on the Silent Hill subreddit, showcasing an image of the Darkhold collectible from the shooter's Season 1 battle pass. Marvel Rivals’ Season 1 Darkhold battle pass launched on January 10 and offers new skins, sprays, emotes, and rewards, including 600 Lattice and 600 Units, and one of the Darkhold’s pages reveals the Halo of the Sun mark from Konami’s Silent Hill franchise. The symbol of the Order refers to the God worshipped by the religious cult behind the titular town’s mysteries, and both communities were surprised to see the reference.
Marvel Rivals Player Discovers Halo of the Sun Silent Hill Reference
Marvel's dark grimoire is the ultimate collection of evil spells gathered by the Elder God Chthon, and it became a staple artifact in the Disney Plus series WandaVision and the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie. Marvel’s Midnight Suns game dug deeper into the Darkhold’s lore, and fans have been making wild connections between the book and Silent Hill thanks to the shooter's reference. Comic fans thought the horror franchise being canon to the Marvel universe strangely made sense, and another theory named WandaVision’s hex as being Silent Hill for “people who replaced shadow work for couch-rotting.” Additionally, other Redditors spotted references to Doom and Fullmetal Alchemist in the Darkhold.
NetEase Games has been firing out fresh content for the hero shooter recently, and a further five Marvel Rivals characters have also been leaked. Professor X and Colossus, prominent heroes from the X-Men pantheon, are among the new additions rumored to be joining the 6v6 PVP shooter, but a release window has not been specified.
