Marvel Rivals is more than just a PvP hero shooter; it also has its own separate universe that still connects to major events from the original Marvel Comics. It also has character lore that gives a glimpse of their backstories and relationships, giving players more reason to invest in the universe. Likewise, these stories even tease future Marvel Rivals heroes and content that players can expect in future updates.

Recently, a new lore entry for Squirrel Girl titled "BFFFS," where she's having a conversation with Psylocke in one part, caught the attention of fans because it referenced "a strange man in red." The two were talking about Psylocke's ancient lupine companion named Logan, who jumped through time and space to find her in Krakoa after the Collector ripped her away from her timeline. Upon scanning Logan's memories, Psylocke said that her companion chased an unknown man in a red outfit who had been sent to find her. Naturally, many fans thought of a couple of rumored Marvel Rivals characters who might fit the description, and could possibly become playable.

Krakoa may be the location of the Hellfire Gala and a safe haven for mutants, but one specific trait may make players uneasy rather than secure.

Marvel Rivals' "Strange Man in Red" Explained

The Marvel franchise has several iconic characters in striking red costumes, including Spider-Man, who's already considered a favorite Marvel Rivals Duelist for backline attacks. In the case of the "strange man in red" mentioned in Squirrel Girl's lore, many Marvel Rivals fans believe this could be teasing either Deadpool or Daredevil.

Ever since Marvel Rivals launched in December 2024, Deadpool has been a highly-requested playable character because of his unpredictable fighting style, which could prove deadly on the battlefield. Deadpool is also known for his fourth wall-breaking antics and witty catchphrases, which could make matches more entertaining (and a little annoying depending on the players' patience). Although there have been leaks about Marvel Rivals potentially adding Deadpool to the roster, it's possible that the "strange man in red" could be pertaining to him.

Daredevil is also rumored to be coming to Marvel Rivals in the future as well. A blind vigilante hero known for his superhuman senses and fighting hand-to-hand combat, some fans have speculated that Daredevil could have the ability to track enemy movements from behind walls. While he is a probable candidate as the "strange man in red" who was going after Psylocke, the description doesn't quite fit him. It's still possible though, because Psylocke and Daredevil have butted heads in the comics before.

Though Deadpool and Daredevil are rumored to be joining Marvel Rivals sometime soon, there's another possible Marvel character who could be the "strange man in red." Considering Psylocke's history in the comics, one of her known rivals is Omega Red, who she betrayed when she was recruited in Cyclops' X-Men Blue Team.

Is Omega Red a Rumored Playable Character in Marvel Rivals?

There haven't been rumors about Omega Red joining Marvel Rivals as a playable character. So far, it's been reported that Omega Red will appear in Insomniac's upcoming Wolverine game as one of the antagonists. Equipped with superhuman strength and infused with radioactive Carbonadium, this fearsome cyborg is often depicted as wearing an all-red suit, which fits Psylocke's description. If he becomes a playable Marvel Rivals character, he could be a viable Vanguard that uses his Carbonadium tentacles to hold back enemies.

It's also possible that Omega Red could just be a Marvel Rivals NPC, who will help push the universe's story forward, especially if the game will carry over his rivalry with Psylocke. This would be exciting if Marvel Rivals did an X-Men-themed season, since the villain is often associated with the mutant faction. Of course, this could also be the perfect time for Marvel Rivals to release more X-Men characters, like Cyclops and Jean Grey.
