A Marvel Rivals leak revealed details of an unused Squirrel Girl and Rocket Raccoon Team-Up ability. Released in late 2024, Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 hero shooter featuring a wide array of characters with unique abilities based on Marvel's expansive IP.
One feature that sets Marvel Rivals apart from other hero shooters are Team-Ups, which allow two or more characters to support each other using their abilities. The heroes involved in Team-Ups are usually canonical teammates or have had interesting interactions in Marvel Comics, like The Fantastic Four or the alliance of Storm and Jeff the Land Shark. With Season 3 coming up, Marvel Rivals will be adding and removing Team-Ups to accommodate new characters, as well as adjust existing abilities.
Marvel Rivals Leak Teases New Wolverine Team-Up Ability
A recent Marvel Rivals leak teases a new team-up ability for Wolverine and one of Season 3's rumored heroes, with some ability reworks to be expected.
Considering Marvel Rivals' growing roster and the potential combinations for Team-Ups, it's likely that developer NetEase might still have some unreleased features. Recently, a Marvel Rivals fan called AlexRay35 shared a leak on Reddit that Squirrel Girl and Rocket Raccoon were supposed to have a Team-Up ability called "Rodent Refresh / Furry Friend," but was either scrapped or is still being saved for a future update. According to the datamined info from Season 0's files, Squirrel Girl would give Rocket a companion squirrel that would allow him to cast each of his abilities once at zero cost and also refresh his gun's magazine.
Marvel Rivals' Squirrel Girl and Rocket Raccoon Alleged Team-Up Explained
- Rodent Refresh / Furry Friend (rumored unused Squirrel Girl and Rocket Raccoon Team-Up): Squirrel Girl summons a squirrel for Rocket Raccoon. While the squirrel is on Rocket, he can cast each of his abilities once at zero cost and refresh his weapon magazine.
Based on the leaked description of the unused Squirrel Girl and Rocket Team-Up, it's possible that Marvel Rivals might have held off on releasing it because it could be a broken ability. Rocket is a Strategist hero that has the ability to damage enemies and heal allies, so giving him the ability to cast at zero cost just once with the help of Squirrel Girl could become a problem in the long run. Meanwhile, many Marvel Rivals fans expressed that they want to see this Team-Up come into fruition in the future, especially because it made sense that Squirrel Girl and Rocket worked together because of the former's animal-based abilities.
While it is possible that Marvel Rivals might still release Squirrel Girl and Rocket's Team-Up in the future, a number of Marvel Rivals fans on Reddit also don't seem keen about it. A number of them want more Team-Ups among Strategists and Vanguards to encourage more healing and shielding buffs. This would especially make sense if Marvel Rivals plans to introduce anti-healing through Blade's rumored abilities.
