There has always been a quit penalty in Marvel Rivals, which applies to both ranked matches and quick play. However, the penalties aren’t harsh, as players who disconnect will receive warning messages before they are handed a five-minute cooldown to think about their actions, and the short turnaround isn’t enticing enough for players to stay in a game that may not be in their favor.

Marvel Rivals Disconnect Penalties Include Loss of Points

Developer NetEase Games has laid out the details in the Season 3.5 patch notes how the disconnect penalties will work in Marvel Rivals. There will be multiple tiers, depending on when the disconnection begins. If a player leaves after the first 70 seconds of the match and the match ends within 90 seconds of the disconnection, that person will not be penalized. If the game ends between 90 and 150 seconds after the disconnection, the offending player will receive a T1 point penalty and a competitive matchmaking ban, both of which scale with multiple offenses.

Each of these scenarios will include point compensation for the players on the offending team. If a player reconnects to the game and their team still wins, no adjustments will be made. If the player reconnects but their team loses, then the disconnecting player’s team will receive compensation to reduce the number of points lost, and the offending player will still receive penalties reflecting their disconnect time. The points offered to the teammates will never give a positive amount and are based on the player’s tier in ranked play. The goal is to reduce the number of intentional quitters in Marvel Rivals matches.

Adjustments to the disconnect penalties are just one of the ways that NetEase is cracking down on player toxicity in Marvel Rivals. In-game chat moderation will be implemented to try and reduce offensive chatting in game. Dubbed “Operation: Shield the Community,” if a player is found to be using offensive language in voice or text chat, reports made against them will be sent for human review. There’s no word yet on whether there will be punishments or bans for people airing out their frustrations over the microphone or in the game chat.

While some of the updates to Season 3.5 may be focused on relieving toxicity from the game, there will still be other exciting new features that players can look forward to.
