  • Marvel Rivals fans found a trick to make Ultron's beam attack faster by using his melee blade in between shots.
  • The trick is most prominent when cooldowns are turned off in the Practice Range.
  • Some fans appreciate the trick, while others point out it may not be beneficial due to missing burst damage and the effort required.

Marvel Rivals fans have discovered a clever Ultron trick that makes him shoot his beam energy beam faster. Launched in Marvel Rivals Season 2.5, Ultron is the newest Strategist to arrive in the game, combining both healing and the ability to deal significant damage to opponents.

In Marvel Comics lore, Ultron is a powerful AI on a mission to destroy organic life, especially The Avengers. He is mostly known as a destructive character in the comics and even in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), while also taking the role of antagonist in Marvel Rivals Season 2. Fans initially found it odd that Marvel Rivals gave Ultron the Strategist role, but as a hyper-intelligent AI, Ultron is undoubtedly a strategic genius.

Marvel Rivals Makes Change to Loki Clones

An eagle-eyed Marvel Rivals player notices an interesting change in how Loki’s clones work, adding a fun twist to the hero shooter game.

With Ultron officially playable, Marvel Rivals players have been testing him out in the Practice Range before diving into a match. A player named siphagiel would later discover that Ultron can shoot faster if they use his melee blade in between shots. In a short side-by-side video on Reddit, they showed how Ultron's Encephalo-Ray (his main attack) shoots more consistently when they quickly hit a melee attack—a classic animation cancel.

Can Ultron's Melee Attack Really Make His Shots Faster?

However, in another post, siphagiel showed that the melee trick is more prominent when cooldowns are turned off in the Practice Range. Hitting the melee attack doesn't seem to make that much of a difference to Ultron's shooting speed, but the player also claims he shoots 0.65 seconds faster per mag with the trick, which is still a slight improvement.

In the comments, most Marvel Rivals fans were appreciative of the player sharing the melee trick, even if it only makes a small change to Ultron's shooting speed. Some pointed out that switching to another ability to cancel an animation is the same technique that Cloak and Dagger mains use instead of pressing the reload button to replenish Lightforce Daggers. Meanwhile, a few fans also alleged that players who do the melee trick might miss out on the Encephalo-Ray's burst damage at the end, and that it might take more effort to trigger a melee attack than letting the cooldown animation trigger.

Reloading in Marvel Rivals is a touchy topic for many players because the mechanic doesn't make sense with some magic-wielding characters, like Doctor Strange and Storm. Players have called on NetEase Games to consider tweaking this, but it's likely that the developer gave certain characters a reload mechanic for the sake of game balance.
