The developers behind Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls say that they intend to continue supporting the upcoming brawler well into the next console generation, which could be welcome news for PlayStation fans. Marvel, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Guilty Gear developer Arc System Works announced a new fighting game collaboration during the most recent PlayStation State of Play livestream on June 4, with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls impressing gamers with its mix of classic Marvel characters and the cell-shaded, 2.5D visual style that the studio is known for.

Marvel Tokon

So far, only eight characters have been confirmed for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls: Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Star-Lord, Iron Man, and Storm. As was announced during EVO 2025 in Las Vegas, a closed Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls beta will be held from September 5 to 7, giving eager PlayStation 5 players a chance to try out the game’s blistering 4v4 combat and provide feedback to make the experience even better once Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls launches in full sometime next year.

Aside from their shared IP, Marvel Rivals and the recently announced game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, are clearly two complementary halves.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls May Be Supported on PS6

If that experience delivers on what the initial Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls trailers and demos have promised fans, then the game could continue to see support on the eventual PlayStation 6. That is what producer Takeshi Yamanaka suggested onstage at EVO this past weekend, as translated by PS Studios’ Reed Baird and reported by PushSquare. He said that Sony and Arc System Works intend to continue supporting Marvel Tokon for the next 10 years, provided it proves to be a sufficient success.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Announces Closed Beta

This would theoretically mean that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could see support continue on the PlayStation 6, which rumors suggest could launch sometime around 2027. Sony has yet to officially announce its next mainline console, but hardware specs for both the PlayStation 6 and a rumored PlayStation handheld have already begun leaking online.

Marvel Tokon Lineup

In the meantime, there is still no official release date for the PlayStation 5 and Windows versions of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls aside from a vague 2026 launch window, but many expect it to hit stores sometime before EVO 2026 so it could be featured at next year’s big fighting game showcase. A 10-year support cycle would be in line with past Arc System Works titles like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Guilty Gear -Strive-. If all goes according to plan, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could become a fighting game staple for a decade to come, even making the jump between console generations in the process.
