When Spider-Man was revealed to be a playable character in the upcoming Marvel's Avengers, the reaction should have been one of excitement. Of any superhero, Spider-Man is arguably one of the most universally loved. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, many fans were upset when it was announced that the web slinging hero would be exclusive to PS4 and PS5.
Marvel's Avengers doesn't follow along with the MCU's pre-established characters, instead drawing inspiration from the comic book source material to create new versions of these characters and tell a new story. Needless to say, Spider-Man is a highly anticipated addition even though there's some resentment surrounding his exclusivity.
Now it seems that fans have an idea of when the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be joining the fray, thanks to an email sent out by United Kingdom retailer GAME to its subscribers. The email doesn't give a specific date, but does provide the exact month of release.
The email above clearly states that Spider-Man "swings into Marvel's Avengers next March," with the kind of certainty that tends to be pretty convincing. Given that the game is set to release on September 4th, this would be quite a ways out past launch, meaning even PlayStation players shouldn't expect to play as Spidey for quite a while after the game releases. It's also worth noting that the PS5 version of Marvel's Avengers will probably be out by next March, so Spider-Man will probably make his way over to that as well.
Of course, neither Crystal Dynamics nor Square Enix have confirmed this information, so fans would be wise to take it with a grain of salt. As with all leaks, there's always the possibility that it is fake or misinformed, though GAME appears to be a relatively reliable source. Either way, it is likely that fans will have a straight answer from the developers soon, as Crystal Dynamics might want to clean up the confusion and give the concrete date now if it actually already has one.
Waiting until March for Spider-Man is unfortunate, but the game will likely be packed with other stuff to do in the meantime. Players interested in checking the game out can try out the Marvel's Avengers open beta available to everyone so they can get a feel for whether or not they like it. Only time will tell if this particular leak is legit, though.
Marvel's Avengers is releases on September 4th for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, and later for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
