When a game like Marvel's Midnight Suns is packed to the gills with hero after hero, it becomes hard to distinguish: what makes them so super? Developer Firaxis Games clearly created each character with a lot of comic devotion and each one is powerful in their own right with unique skills, abilities, and synergies with other team members. From might to magic and back again they all have their roles to play.

Tanks, healers, DPS...each character in the roster serves a certain purpose, and players might just want to choose their favorite heroes whether that is Spider-Man or Nico Minoru of The Runaways to join the battle alongside the protagonist Hunter in this deck-building strategy game. However, others might prefer maximizing efficiency to match their playstyle in Marvel's Midnight Suns, or picking heroes to create a specific team that works well together. This guide might help with what hero to hire first.

13 Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff, a powerful character in her own right, has high damage potential and the ability to perform area-of-effect attacks and spells that are simultaneously potent against foes and powerful healing to friends alike.

However, players may find her difficult to use as she comes later in the game, and the other characters are higher leveled and have more investments into their skills. She would be a great early addition, but by the time she unlocks it could be a waste of resources to get her to the same power as the rest of the characters in the roster at that stage in the game.

12 Hulk

Similarly to the Scarlet Witch, the Hulk boasts one of the most powerful attacks and stats in-game. However, he comes later in the story where investing in him may seem like a waste of resources if the player already has high DPS in their team set-ups.

Plus his special ability, Rage, takes a while to build and the most powerful cards in his repertoire cost a lot of heroism (a special energy dictating what cards can be cast in a turn).

In a New Game+, players may find that Scarlet Witch and Hulk are more useful when they are already unlocked and the player has more resources to use.

11 Blade

Midnight Suns Blade

Draining blood from the suckers that dare to stand in Blade's way, he focuses on individually taking down foes or inflicting blood loss on all manner of enemies. This effect slowly drains foes of their health on each of their turns (fitting with the vampire theme), building up damage all the way through the battle.

He can sustain himself against damage with life-steal heroic cards. However, many of Blade's abilities grow more powerful when his cards are played in a sequential order, which relies on RNG, to be perfectly in the player’s favor.

10 Nico Minoru

Mighty magic and a powerful weapon user, wielding The Staff Of One. Her skills are formidable and can become big swings in the heat of battle. She has incredibly high damage output and can also heal as well. Plus, some of her skills allow the player to draw more cards.

However, Nico is a gamble and her skills operate on a roulette system where the effects of her cards may be helpful or just downright redundant, depending on the circumstances of the battle and mission objectives.

9 Iron Man

Midnight Suns Iron Man

An incredibly versatile character that employs redraw mechanics in many of his skills, plus he has a high chance to knock back the enemy into environmental hazards or other villains on the battlefield.

Similarly to his comic and cinematic appearances, Tony Stark is somewhat of a lone wolf and would prefer to do it all himself than have any help at all. He doesn't synergize well with other party members which can be detrimental to the impact of the team when fighting meatier bosses or hordes of enemies.

8 Doctor Strange

Marvel's Midnight Suns Doctor Strange In Limbo

Another versatile character who has interesting skills that can get a player out of a tight spot by negating incoming damage, protecting the team, and even drawing more cards in the next round of the battle.

Doctor Strange's abilities can often cost heroism which may affect the choices one can make in the round of battle, having to prioritize using his cards, instead of using more of the other characters' cards. Therefore, he is slow to start, but when he gets going he is super-effective!

7 Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel has the highest potential damage in Marvel's Midnight Suns

Captain Marvel has a higher constitution and can operate by herself without the addition of other characters to fully use her abilities. Good movement, solid attack, and a photon beam that can light up enemies from across the battlefield (multiple if they’re clustered close together or in a line).

Her maximum power is locked behind a Binary Mode which is a power-up of sorts and too much damage from enemies can remove this state quickly. Plus, she doesn't have any aces up her sleeve for those pinch-hitter moments.

6 Ghost Rider

A high DPS unit that can deal loads of damage within a round, plus is unlocked early in the game. Additionally, investing in Ghost Rider isn't a bad idea, as his cards scale throughout the game, so players may feel like they're getting their money’s worth with him.

On the other side, he can be a bit squishy (the glass cannon of the game), so even though players want to fully utilize his power, putting him in harm's way is a double-edged sword.

5 Captain America

Marvel midnight Suns Captain America

Just like his shield, Captain America serves a purpose. One of the more useful tanks with Midnight Suns, Steve Rogers can taunt enemies well and can block a lot of damage when in their cross-hairs, plus he has a mean counterattack that can lay Hydra goons on their backs.

His tank role is mainly used to support other team members and has no real threat in his arsenal, preferring to draw attention away from the damage dealers than deal major damage himself. Plus, his shield bounce (even though taunting multiple enemies) might take him out of the kitchen and into the fire, so players should keep an eye on his health when they use him.

4 Spider-Man

From dangers in Manhattan to those of mystical proportions, Spider-Man is a good choice for any team. He can be applied to nearly any situation boasting a range of cards that can target multiple enemies and apply multiple status effects including knockback.

He is an opportunist by name and nature and is able to make environmental attacks for free, plus he has a greater movement range. However, he lacks that big punch or ability that can take down the bosses within the game and is more suited for crowd control.
