Street Fighter and McDonald's are collaborating to introduce three unique sandwiches based upon the fighters of the series. However, some fans of Street Fighter may be out of luck actually getting to try them, as they' promotion is currently limited to Japan.
McDonald's in both Japan and the west frequently collaborate with video games, introducing sandwiches, drinks, and Happy Meal toys featuring iconic characters and items from games like Minecraft, Pokemon, and even Genshin Impact. However, while many of these collabs are offered in multiple locales, some of them are restricted to select countries or regions.
McDonald's Japan Introduces Three Street Fighter Menu Items
Now, fans of Street Fighter can check out some new eats based upon the classic fighting game franchise at McDonald's starting on October 22. The new menu additions were revealed with an amusing video based upon the fighter's classic game era, showing Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li facing off with opponents, who are also what the new menu items are themed around. Ryu receives a burnt-garlic teriyaki, egg, and mayo burger, while Chun-Li gets a sweet and sour fried chicken burger, and Ken gets the Torichi triple cheeseburger.
In the video promos, the classic style of Street Fighter 2 has been recreated, with the characters firing off food-related attacks at one another while brawling in front of McDonald's locations. Their individual attacks end up merging into the restaurant items being offered, like Akuma firing a garlic bulb at Ryu, who counters with his own egg burger attack, creating the combination being offered at McDonald's. The video also features plenty of Easter eggs of other Street Fighter characters enjoying McDonald's. McDonald's hasn't announced just how long the promo will last, so interested fans who find themselves in Japan should check it out sooner than later.
While McDonald's collaborations with games almost always see high levels of popularity, this partnership with Street Fighter should bypass some of the biggest problems that have negatively impacted the events lately. In August, McDonald's ended up issuing an apology to Pokemon fans due to its Pokemon TCG promo running out much faster than expected. Unfortunately, the extreme demand was reportedly due to scalpers scooping up the available stock, and abandoning the meals that came with it, leading to tremendous food waste. Since there are no promo items included with these three Street Fighter burgers, presumably, only those who actually want to try the food will purchase them.
