With an incredibly vast cast of prestigeous actors playing some of the most important characters in the Marvel Universe for the MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday, audiences might want to know of a few characters involved with the multiverse story that are more than likely going to have important roles based on their past, and the potential for their future.

Marvel: 10 Best MCU Sequel Movies, Ranked

Some sequels set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have become iconic modern films, such as Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 and Avengers: Infinity War.

Each character listed below will likely hold an important role in Avengers: Doomsday, showcasing their strengths in the MCU by providing important plot points and actions that could help stop the multiverse threat of Doctor Doom himself.

7 Loki

The God Who Holds the Multiverse Together

  • Played by: Tom Hiddleston
  • Last Seen in: Loki (2021-2023)

Without Loki, the multiverse simply wouldn’t exist, and reality itself would unfold into countless ribbons. Loki’s glorious purpose is to be the God of Stories, the one above all who holds the timelines together within his hands, forming the multiverse as Yggdrasil. Multiverses are born and they die, all within Loki’s palms as he keeps things in balance, never interfering in the comings and goings.

With Tom Hiddleston’s return as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday, and his promise that Loki’s chapter is not yet over, it’s expected that he will play an important role in the events to come, especially when the multiverse is hanging on by a thread and a squeeze of his palm.

6 Doctor Doom

The Antagonist On His Own Heroic Mission

  • Played by: Robert Downey Jr.

Doctor Doom is easily going to be the most important character in Avengers: Doomsday. After all, he’s in the title, it’s Robert Downey Jr., and it’s the Doctor Doom himself. While nothing is known about Doom other than he’s played by RDJ, it’s expected that this villain is on his own mission to save the multiverse, no matter who gets hurt or killed on the odyssey.

Not every villain is one-dimensional in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with characters like Loki and Winter Soldier evolving into iconic heroes.

RDJ is a phenomenal actor, and to see him return as a character with a “new mask, same task” is certainly going to be an interesting watch to see what kind of mission he has tasked himself with, and what it is that makes him see himself as the right man to save the world.

5 Mister Fantastic

The Smartest Man on Earth, and Doctor Doom’s Greatest Rival

  • Played by: Pedro Pascal
  • Last Seen in: The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)

The nemesis of Doctor Doom is Mr. Fantastic, and Reed Richards knows this firsthand. Doom’s hatred for Richards comes from his own genius and absurdly large ego, and it’s inevitable that the two will share the screen and clash with minds, fists, and powers throughout Avengers: Doomsday, for Mister Fantastic might be the only man in the multiverse to know how truly dangerous Doom really is.

Since Avengers: Doomsday will be the next MCU movie after 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it’s inevitable that audiences will find out how Reed Richards comes into play for 616’s world, and how his relationship with Doctor Doom will develop as bitter rivals hellbent on outsmarting each other.

4 Namor

The Talokan King Who Will Do What Must Be Done To Save All

  • Played by: Tom Hiddleston
  • Last Seen in: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2023)

Namor is a sinister killer, but he knows that is what he must be if he has to be burdened with the title of a king. Even his name shows how brutal he can be, as he’s the child without love, and now, as a man who has been around for centuries, he’s a man who has no love for the surface world. However, the multiverse does include his underwater kingdom, which is why it makes sense that he’ll be a part of the surface world’s war against the other universe that threatens them.

Namor is what’s called a necessary evil, as he will do whatever it takes to ensure that he and his people live. He has the stomach and the shoulders to swallow and carry the burden of death, and if an incursion does threaten the Avengers, it will be Namor who pulls the trigger on the other world to save his own.

3 Sentry

The Most Powerful Superhero in the Marvel Universe… For Now

  • Played by: Lewis Pullman
  • Last Seen in: Thunderbolts* (2025)

To put it bluntly, Sentry is like Marvel’s Superman, except he has a lot more powers and emotional weaknesses that act as extremely dangerous vulnerabilities. With Sentry rejoining the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, there should hopefully be a lengthy amount of screentime for this forgotten Avenger, and plenty of space for him to showcase his powers as a team player, outside of his villainous role as the Void.

Sentry deserves a bright spot to shine in with Avengers: Doomsday, and while he’s not going to lead the Avengers against Doctor Doom, it’s still worth paying close attention to him to see how his powers can evolve the MCU going forward.

2 Cyclops

A Gifted X-Men Who Isn’t Going to be a Fan of the Avengers

  • Played by: James Marsden
  • Last Seen in: X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Cyclops is someone who takes Professor Xavier’s dream very seriously, and while humans are extremely prejudiced toward mutants, it won’t stop Scott Summers from being a hero and showing that his gifts are powers that can help save the world. However, since Cyclops is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, it’s more than likely that it’s going to be as the X-Men’s leader, no longer overshadowed by Wolverine.

As such, Cyclops should have a very important role in establishing the comic-accurate X-Men, and showcasing the difference between the two superhero teams, that Cyclops isn’t the biggest fan of celebrated heroes like the Avengers, and he’s the stoic leader who takes charge.

1 Captain America

Sam Wilson Can Prove He’s the Leader Steve Rogers Knew He Could Be

  • Played by: Anthony Mackie
  • Last Seen in: Captain America: Brave New World (2025)

Sam Wilson has proved he is Captain America, and even helped the President of the United States to see that as fact. While Sam has proved he’s Captain America, he still has the ultimate task ahead of him, one that he hasn’t yet tried because the world hasn’t needed it, and that’s to lead the Avengers. With the multiverse coming to his doorstep, it’s time for Sam to take charge and say the iconic lines donned by the previous Captain America… “Avengers, Assemble.”

Captain America deserves quite the spot to shine in with Avengers: Doomsday, and Anthony Mackie has proved his caliber as an actor, so to see him face off against Doctor Doom and act as the stoic leader that the Avengers need is of utmost importance.
