Fans of the Winter 2025 sports anime Medalist have received some great news just as the season finished. Rather than having to wait weeks, months, or even years to find out if the ice-skating anime was going to get another season, a trailer dropped announcing season two over the weekend. Production has already officially begun on Medalist Season Two.

The announcement and trailer were both published on the Medalist anime's official YouTube Channel on Saturday, just following the completion of the first season. The video already has more than 200,000 views in less than 48 hours, which comes as no surprise considering the channel itself has over 83,000 subscribers. The video has also gained over 600 comments from fans excited about the next chapter in the story.

How Medalist Season One Fared

The Latest Sports Anime Taking the World by Storm

Medalist premiered in the Winter 2025 anime season, airing from January 5th to March 30th. Season one finished with 13 episodes, and an incredibly high rating of 8.40 on MyAnimeList and 8.1 on IMDB, along with a 75% approval rating from Google users. These are very high scores for an anime, especially one with only 13 episodes so far, showing just how many people enjoyed watching it last season.

MyAnimeList summarizes the plot of Medalist as,

Tsukasa Akeuraji always dreamed of becoming a competitive solo figure skater, but starting too late in life meant his ambitions never got off the ground. Now barely scraping by, he takes on an assistant coach job, resigned to a future far from the one he once imagined.

Before his first day, Tsukasa meets Inori Yuitsuka, a shy fifth grader sneaking into the rink to practice. Captivated by figure skating, but held back by her mother's overprotectiveness and her own self-doubt, Inori has never been encouraged to pursue her passion until she encounters Tsukasa. Beneath her personality lies great potential, waiting to be unlocked with the right guidance.

Moved by Inori's determination to change and reminded of his own struggles, Tsukasa offers to coach and help her chase the dream she has been too afraid to voice. While the road ahead is long and filled with unfamiliar challenges and rival skaters, Inori dedicates herself to the art and strives to one day reach the Olympics and become a medalist.

Sports anime have been popular for many years now, but there hasn't been a big ice skating anime since Yuri!! On ICE, which aired all the way back in 2016. Yuri!! Was also incredibly popular when it was airing, but Medalist has even higher ratings across most platforms, threatening to become the most popular ice skating anime of all time.

Medalist Season Two Has Been Confirmed

Production For Medalist Season 2 has Begun

The good news for Medalist fans is that the anime's high performance is likely to thank for it already being green-lit for season two. The trailer that came out over the weekend announced in its title on YouTube that production had already begun on the next season as well, so it may not be too long before an air date is shared - and for the anime itself to be released.

The new trailer serves more as a celebration than anything else; it does not have any new animation, but rather is a conglomeration of scenes from the first season. It is a nice trip down memory lane for fans, though, who can relive some of the best moments from season one while also knowing that more is on its way.

Medalist's official X channel also posted a new visual, featuring all the anime's main characters skating together on the ice. The visual is also meant to be a celebration of the announcement of season two as well, though at least with new art. So, while there may not be any new animation yet for Medalist season two, at least fans can know that another season has been confirmed, and can enjoy a new piece of art while they are waiting.

Watch Medalist now on Hulu.
