In total, there are 21 characters in Megabonk, most of which are locked at the start of the game. Each character has a starting weapon and a unique passive ability that grants stat bonuses with every level-up or other benefits. But not all Megabonk characters are made equally. Though the game gets a lot of balance updates, some consistently stand head and shoulders above others.

Megabonk Fox Build Guide

Master Fox's unique playstyle in Megabonk with expert tips on weapon combos, item builds, and leveling strategies. Become an unstoppable force!

It's true that players can complete a run with any character in Megabonk because the game's randomized nature means they will eventually stumble into a powerful build. But the best characters in Megabonk have a significantly easier time completing Tier 3, reaching the third Stage, and defeating the final boss.

This character tier list ranks all 21 characters based on their scaling potential, starting kit, and other factors that separate the worst from the best characters in Megabonk.

Updated on December 27, 2025, by Ashely Claudino: The Spooky update introduced players to several items as well as a brand-new character with a unique starting weapon. Once players gain access to the Graveyard map in Megabonk, they can start working towards unlocking the Scythe and Roberto. This guide has now been updated, and it features the latest character to be added to Megabonk.

This list is, of course, subjective. Players might not do well with an S-tier character and have a much easier time making it to the Final Swarm or Tier 3 stage boss with another character. This will depend on players' own playstyle, the items that they pick up along the way, and the shrine perks that they pick. The leaderboards are constantly changing, and this might be due to some new exploit or a recent patch. When that is not the case, there will be a healthy mix of all available characters

S Tier Megabonk Characters

Calcium, Bandit, Dicehead, & Robinette

megabonk-reaches-one-million-copies-sold-on-steam-just-two-weeks-after-launch-despite-some-competition-from-silksong-and-hades-2

The best Megabonk characters (in no particular order) are Calcium, Bandit, Dicehead, and Robinette. These four best characters in Megabonk rank so highly on this Megabonk characters tier list for the same reason: their scaling potential.

  • Calcium's passive increases his damage based on current movement speed, which can be pushed to ridiculous heights by the third stage.
  • Dicehead's passive was absolutely busted in the launch version of the game, but it remains an extremely strong ability if players can get a lot of XP gain early.
  • Bandit's Dexecutioner proc occurs more often as they increase Attack Speed (and get some Joe's Dagger items).
  • Robinette's Bow is great for clearing waves, but her passive becomes more and more powerful as the player's run progresses. By the third stage, with tens of thousands of Gold on hand, she can pump out game-breaking damage numbers.

The four A Tier characters are far from the worst characters in Megabonk, but they don't quite have the starting bias and scaling potential of the best classes. B Tier Megabonk Characters

Athena, Bush, Tony McZoom, Vlad

Megabonk Character Tier List Cest Characters Tony McZoom

After the best characters in Megabonk come four characters who can become broken, but just aren't on the power level of S and A Tier characters. Players shouldn't find it too hard to get to Stage 3 with these B Tier Megabonk characters, but they won't have as easy a run as they might with higher-tier characters.

Still, some of these characters are very popular amongst the Megabonk fanbase – Vlad and Athena, especially, can turn into powerhouses and easily survive to the final boss fight. It just takes a bit more effort, and more niche builds/better luck, to get them to that point compared to the best Megabonk characters.

Athena

  • Megabonk Characters Character Icon Athena
  • "Captain America but ordered from Temu (with a 23% discount)."

    Athena Starting Weapon: Aegis

Blocks incoming attacks and sends out shockwaves.

    Athena Passive Ability: Lock In

Deal more damage on lower HP. Gain 2 Thorns per level.

    Bush Passive Ability: Bullseye

Random enemies are marked. Also gain 0.5% Crit Damage per level.

Tony McZoom

  • Megabonk Characters Character Icon Tony McZoom
  • "Tony didn't choose the hoverboard – the hoverboard chose him."

Tony McZoom Starting Weapon: Wireless Dagger

Throw smart daggers at your enemies. Wireless tech goes crazy these days.

    Tony McZoom Passive Ability: Zap

Charge an electric attack by moving around. Gain 2% Pickup Range per level.

  • Megabonk Characters Character Icon Vlad
  • "He looks pretty evil but he's actually a really nice dude. He always says hi at the grocery store. Chill guy."

    Vlad Starting Weapon: Blood Magic

Summons blood magic. 5% chance to increase Max HP upon killing enemies.

    Vlad Passive Ability: Vampire

    Gain 1% Lifesteal per level.

C Tier Megabonk Characters

Amog, Birdo, Fox, Ninja, Noelle, Ogre, Sir Chadwell, Spaceman, Roberto

Megabonk Character Tier List Cest Characters Ogre

Generally speaking, there aren't any bad characters in Megabonk, but some characters are just harder to play, don't have a good starting weapon or a useful passive ability, or can be difficult to min-max unless you get very specific items during your run.

Spaceman, for example, starts off with the Black Hole item, which has its uses, but if he can't find other powerful items, weapons, and upgrades, he won't be able to do much except reposition enemies.

Birdo's Tornado starting weapon is considered one of the worst in the game, but his passive ability synergizes extremely well with the Scarf item, which increases damage while airborne.

Roberto's starting weapon, the Scythe, is a good addition to Megabonk because it slashes enemies in every direction. His floating ability is also good because it allows players to jump over some enemies and avoid taking hits in the early game. Additionally, the free chests that he receives periodically are awesome. However, his other stats leave a bit to be desired, and he isn't particularly strong at anything.

Players shouldn't necessarily avoid playing as these characters in Megabonk – many are useful for certain challenges or have Unlocks associated with them. But if they want to play an easy character who can make it to the final boss without too much effort, look elsewhere.

Amog

  • Megabonk Characters Character Icon Amog
  • "No one knows his real name. Everyone just started calling him Amog, and he never corrected them."

    Amog Starting Weapon: Poison Flask

Throws toxic flasks at enemies, dealing area damage and poisoning them.

    Amog Passive Ability: Plague

Poisoned enemies explode on death, poisoning nearby enemies.

Birdo

  • Megabonk Characters Character Icon Birdo
  • "The glasses are for your safety, not his."

    Birdo Starting Weapon: Tornado

Sends out tornadoes, knocking enemies back.

    Birdo Passive Ability: Float

Hold Jump to float in the air.

Fox

  • Megabonk Characters Character Icon Fox
  • "Quick on his feet and unnaturally lucky."
