If it feels like rumors about a Metal Gear Solid movie have been floating around for more than three years, that's because they have. The film is in development at Sony Pictures, but seems to still be in the very early stages of development. Although no official casting has happened yet, the film's director did recently tease that he's meeting with the forefront Metal Gear expert for some advice.

Taking a property that is as treasured as Metal Gear Solid and making it a movie is obviously a daunting task, especially considering how video game movies usually perform. That said, Sony is still moving forward with the project and Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is still onboard. Although details about the film are still shrouded in mystery, the director apparently had a virtual sit down with Hideo Kojima recently.

Vogt-Roberts shared the following image and teaser with his Twitter followers...

Although this doesn't give us any real clues about the direction of the project, it is incredibly reassuring to know that the team behind the film cares enough to collaborate with Kojima and get his opinion on things. When it comes to scheming, the iconic Metal Gear creator is clearly an all-star.

Kojima is no longer tied to the Metal Gear property since his falling out with Konami, but it would be nice to still get a taste of that Kojima craziness if his influence shines through in the finished film. Fans likely still have a long wait before even a teaser trailer arrives for the project, so for now everyone will just have to use their imaginations to visualize what Solid Snake on the big screen might be like.

Although Warcraft was unable to break the video game movie curse with a critically acclaimed director, it is possible that Metal Gear Solid will find a way to buck the trend. We'll be keeping an eye on the production and updating as news arrives.

The Metal Gear Solid movie currently does not have a release date or an official title.
