Summary

  • Jodi Benson, known for Disney's Ariel, confirmed as voicing Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater retains original voice performances.
  • Benson used pseudonym Suzetta Miñet to protect her child-friendly image.

Twenty years after the game's original release, the performer who portrayed Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3 has been revealed to be an actress perhaps best known for her work with Disney. The reveal has confirmed the long-held belief of many Metal Gear Solid 3 fans, and the voice actress has explained why her true name has been kept under wraps for all this time.

After all these years, Metal Gear Solid 3 is getting a remake in the form of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The remake is giving the game a complete overhaul, but will retain the original voice performances of the classic. This means that series veteran David Hayter will return as Snake himself, but it also means that the mysterious Suzetta Miñet will return as Eva.

Now, in an official Konami Metal Gear promo video, Suzetta Miñet has been revealed to be none other than Jodi Benson. While Benson has a storied acting career, she is perhaps best known for portraying Ariel in Disney's The Little Mermaid and all subsequent official animated appearances, including in the Kingdom Hearts series. The reveal came straight from Konami, who sat David Hayter and Jodi Benson down to discuss their roles in the game as part of the build-up towards the game's remake.

Why Did Jodi Benson Hide Her Identity in Metal Gear Solid 3?

As stated, many fans have suspected that Jodi Benson was behind the role, but it was never confirmed until now. Benson, who is also known for child-friendly roles like the title character in Thumbelina and Barbie in the Toy Story franchise, took a pseudonym for the game to protect her career. Metal Gear Solid 3 voice director Kris Zimmerman Salter suggested it, as Eva's character and the rating of the game were much more adult-oriented than the majority of her prior works. In the end, Benson ended up taking the name Suzetta Miñet as a tribute to a childhood pet, whose name was Suzette Monet.

The fan community seems to be delighted that the long-held suspicion has turned out to be true. Apparently, at least one fan was previously so convinced of it that they brought a copy of Metal Gear Solid 3 to one of Benson's public appearances, asking her to sign it. Benson says she admitted to her role with the fan on a one-on-one basis, asking them to keep her secret at the time. Now that the truth has finally been revealed, perhaps now she can meet more of those fans and talk a bit more about the experience she had behind the scenes in this classic Metal Gear role.
