- While a Metal Gear Solid 4 port has not been confirmed, there is hope from fans that it will come to modern platforms one day.
Konami has commented on fan demand for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Metal Gear Solid 4 was released as a PlayStation 3 exclusive in 2008. It launched to widespread critical acclaim with some pointing to it as one of the absolute best video games ever made. Unfortunately for those that never owned a PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4 has remained trapped on the system ever since, with no remaster, remake, or port to speak of.
While Hideo Kojima's split from Konami has seen the Metal Gear Solid franchise go on hiatus, Konami is making an effort to put the beloved series back in the spotlight. It's accomplishing this by releasing the classic Metal Gear Solid games on modern platforms through Master Collections, with Master Collection Vol. 1 featuring the original MGS, Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, and the 80s-era Metal Gear games. The next collection has not been announced at the time of this writing, but there is hope from fans that it will include Metal Gear Solid 4 whenever it does see the light of day.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2's games have not been announced yet, so fans may want to keep their expectations in check. However, it's looking increasingly likely that Metal Gear Solid 4 will one day come to modern platforms. IGN recently spoke to Konami producer Noriaki Okamura and asked about the much-requested Metal Gear Solid 4 port. Okamura said, "We definitely are aware of this situation with MGS4. Unfortunately, we can't really say too much at the moment," and then said that with Master Collection Vol. 1 featuring the first three MGS games that fans can "probably connect the dots."
Metal Gear Solid 4 Re-Release Teased
with Vol. 1 containing MGS 1-3 dot dot dot… you can probably connect the dots.
A previous leak suggested that Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 will feature three games: MGS4, Peace Walker, and The Phantom Pain. Time will tell if there is any truth to that leak, but fans shouldn't expect news on that front to come at any point in the near future. Right now, Konami is focused on a different Metal Gear Solid experience, one that will see Snake Eater get a brand-new coat of paint.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is getting a remake in the form of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It will vastly improve the graphics compared to the original release while also making some big gameplay changes as well. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently without a release date, but it's expected to drop at some point in 2025.
Metal Gear Solid is the first name that comes to mind for many people when thinking about stealth video games.
The Metal Gear Solid series is a continuation of the Metal Gear series and began on the PlayStation 1. The main series games are developed by Konami and are directed by one of the biggest names in game development: Hideo Kojima.
