Konami has released Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 patch 1.4.0, aiming to improve the visual and auditory experience while addressing other issues. Although PC users have already received this update, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 players on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch will get the update in January 2024.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is a compilation of games encompassing the first five iconic entries in the franchise: Metal Gear (1987), MG2: Solid Snake (1990), Metal Gear Solid (1998), MGS2: Sons of Liberty (2001), and MGS3: Snake Eater (2004). Prior to its launch, Konami acknowledged various issues concerning Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, pledging to address them in due time. Some were resolved in previous updates, and additional improvements are incorporated in the current patch 1.4.0.

The update introduces several features aimed at enhancing the player's experience. In Metal Gear Solid, players can now toggle the "Smoothing" option on and off, choosing between a polished or sharp visual display. On Steam, users can now face MGS challenges with a controller response speed customization option, selecting between fast and stable responses. The auditory landscape was also addressed across every game in the collection, introducing a new Audio Settings feature that allows players to adjust both game and main menu volumes.

The Steam version now features a Window Mode, enabling players to seamlessly switch between windowed and full-screen modes by pressing Alt + Enter on the keyboard. A fix was applied to prioritize user-set button designs on Steam. Additionally, the patch addresses some Metal Gear Solid visual limitations, allowing gamers to customize their game screen settings by choosing from standard, pixel-perfect, or 16:9 ratios.

In Sons of Liberty, the update resolves specific issues related to cutscene pointers and the accurate display of sea lice during certain in-game moments, ensuring a more polished gaming experience. For Snake Eater, resolution issues related to certain face paints have also been addressed, alongside other minor improvements. Finally, for Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, minor fixes have been applied.

Similar to previous MGS: Master Collection updates, this patch aims to improve the gaming experience and assist in the complex task of bringing these old titles to today’s platforms. The Metal Gear franchise remains highly acclaimed, and its appeal endures despite the many years since the initial launch of Metal Gear 1.
