The games that collectively make up the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 can be purchased separately. The Master Collection consists of the first three Metal Gear Solid titles: Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. These games are widely regarded as some of the greatest games ever made, and have each won several awards. The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection was confirmed late in May of this year after months of rumors, leaks, and speculation.

Konami used the recent PlayStation Showcase to unveil Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 alongside a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This marks the first time the franchise has seen any action since the release of Metal Gear Survive in 2018. The announcement of Metal Gear Survive was marked by a negative fan response, and the game didn't fare much better in terms of critical reception. Review aggregator Metacritic gives the PS4 version a "mixed or average" score of 60, while gamers torpedoed the game with a 1.4 user score. Thankfully, the general response to the announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 seems to be much more favorable.

The individual titles that make up Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will be available for individual purchase, as confirmed by Konami. The games will be available for $19.99 a pop.

Another thing fans might already be wondering about is whether other games in the Metal Gear series will also be remade or re-released in the future. The very name Master Collection Vol. 1 implies that there will be a second volume, but what it might contain is anyone's guess at this stage. Hopefully Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will either be re-released with the second volume or remade since it remains a PS3 exclusive as of writing.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 launches October 24 on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
