The composer of Hogwarts Legacy’s score shared a video clip on Instagram that appears to be teasing something to do with a Metal Gear Solid-related project, but it may not be the project fans have been eagerly anticipating. The Metal Gear Solid series has been mostly dormant in recent years, with the only exception being 2018’s Metal Gear Survive, the first and only Metal Gear game released by Konami after Kojima’s departure.
J. Scott Rakozy composed the score for Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world game set in the Wizarding World universe created by J.K. Rowling. Game critics lauded Hogwarts Legacy’s musical score, saying it captured the wonder and magic of the original score from the films, the first three of which were composed by film legend John Williams.
Rakozy posted a short video of a rearrangement of the Metal Gear Solid theme as an Instagram Story. This caught the attention of Metal Gear Solid fans who immediately began theorizing that Rakozy was perhaps teasing the release of the long-rumored remakes of the Metal Gear Solid games. Such rumors have swirled for months. Some claim Konami is remaking the first 3D entry in the series, the classic Metal Gear Solid, first released for the original PlayStation in 1998. Others claim it’s a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Neither rumor has thus far been confirmed.
What may be closer to the truth, as theorized by PCGamesN, is that Rakozy may be composing a version of the Metal Gear theme for an upcoming album featuring covers and rearrangements of all-time great video game music. PCGamesN did some investigating and reminded fans that singer Donna Burke recently re-recorded her classic theme from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. That, coupled with the ongoing speculation of a Metal Gear Solid remake, led some to believe the rumors of a remake were true. It now seems more likely that Rakozy is also composing music for the album.
Rakozy has a long history of using his social media channels to post music inspired by the Metal Gear Solid themes originally composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. Rakozy has been posting Metal Gear- inspired tracks to his YouTube channel as far back as 2011. The rearrangement of the Metal Gear Solid theme he posted to his Instagram Stories could very well be a sample from an upcoming Metal Gear Solid remake, or maybe a snippet from the aforementioned album. But it could just as easily be a composer experimenting with some personal projects. Only time will tell.
