Metal Gear Survive, the first game in the franchise since the messy divorce between Hideo Kojima and Konami, raised a lot of eyebrows after being announced as a survival style game set within the Metal Gear universe. Instead of tactically sneaking and using stealth, players now have to scavenge for supplies to create and defend a base against zombie-like creatures. Even though the game is currently having issues letting people play, the microtransaction store is live.
Players across all three platforms can access an online store for Metal Gear Survive which features items called SV Coins. Pricing options run from 100 SV Coins for $0.99 to a big coin bundle for $50. Here's the full breakdown of available options:
- 100 SV coins - $0.99
- 550 SV coins - $4.99
- 1150 SV coins - $9.99
- 3500 SV coins - $29.99
- 60020 SV coins - $49.99
According to the store description, SV coins are used as in-game currency, allowing players to boost various actions such as increasing the production of exploration teams, increasing food production, and other features. While the online store is working just fine, many players haven't had a chance to fully utilize these coins as the game is currently experiencing a host of issues since it launched earlier today. A day one patch is causing many players to become stuck at the first message screen after booting the game up on the PlayStation 4. At this time, there isn't a fix, though Konami is aware of the problem.
Microtransactions are nothing new for Konami, as they were also heavily integrated within Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as well. Players were able to buy in-game currency called Mother Base coins, as well as new outfits such as Snake's Tuxedo, which most players would agree was overpriced. Arguably the worst example of this, however, was the ability to purchase a virtual insurance to protect player bases and resources from attacking players in the FOB PvP mode. Players could purchase a subscription-like service for a set amount of time and retain any items attacked or stolen by opposing players.
Metal Gear Survive is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
