A recently released Metaphor: ReFantazio mod improves the game with the addition of ultrawide support, customizable graphics tweaks, and some critical bug fixes, among other novelties. However, the mod is currently only available for a single PC version of Metaphor: ReFantazio.
The latest big-budget JRPG from Atlus launched on Friday, October 11. Metaphor: ReFantazio has already proven to be a huge hit, surpassing one million sales in its first day on the market, thus becoming the Japanese studio's fastest game to reach that milestone. And while its fan reception has been stellar overall, some players did complain about a number of technical issues specific to the PC version of the JRPG.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Mod Adds Over a Dozen Improvements
Developer Lyall has recently decided to tackle some of these issues in the form of a Metaphor: ReFantazio Fix mod. The add-on, which can be downloaded from GitHub, was originally released in late September 2024, with its creator basing it on the extended Metaphor: ReFantazio demo that Atlus put out at the time. It has since been updated to work with the full version of the JRPG. The mod introduces over a dozen improvements to the game, like allowing it to be compatible with any resolution and aspect ratio, which effectively functions as makeshift ultrawide monitor support.
The add-on also introduces an automatic intro cinematic skip and removes the 60fps frame rate cap from the menus. It even fixes an annoying bug that restricts the protagonist's movement to only eight directions, making it appear somewhat choppy when using a controller. This particular issue doesn't exist in the console versions of the game and is expected to be addressed by Atlus eventually. Ultrawide support is less likely to ever be officially implemented, as it's also missing from the company's other PC ports. This is what previously motivated Lyall to release a similar mod for the critically acclaimed Persona 3 Reload.
As for the project at hand, the Metaphor: ReFantazio Fix also offers a way to disable the dash blur and anime-style speed lines displayed during sprinting animations, which some players have labeled as disorienting. Furthermore, it allows PC gamers to adjust the resolution of ambient occlusion effects and the so-called LOD distance, which determines how far away from a given object the protagonist has to be before the game loads in its high-res model.
As things stand right now, this comprehensive mod is only compatible with the Metaphor: ReFantazio Steam version. It's currently unclear whether the build distributed via the Microsoft Store is planned to be supported in the future. The latest version of the mod also has some minor bugs that are still being worked on, like having the corner UI elements remain in the center of the screen when using an ultrawide resolution.
