Atlus and Studio Zero have announced the Guidebook Edition of Metaphor: ReFantazio, with the new digital bundle planned to release in early 2026. Metaphor: ReFantazio was one of the most applauded RPGs of 2024, even snagging a Game of the Year nomination, and this upcoming release of the title comes packed with several extras sure to please fans of the fantasy game.
Shipping one million copies on release day and currently boasting an average score of 93 on OpenCritic, Metaphor: ReFantazio managed to become Atlus' fastest-selling game upon its launch in late 2024. Dubbed "fantasy Persona" by large portions of the fanbase, the title continues to be praised for its worldbuilding, gameplay, and political relevance, with its story touching on complex themes such as discrimination and racism. Earlier this month, Atlus teased an upcoming Metaphor: ReFantazio announcement, though no additional details were provided. Now, fans have something to look forward to next year, as a new edition of the RPG has been confirmed.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Digital Guidebook Edition Coming in Early 2026
To celebrate the game's first anniversary, Atlus held a commemorative livestream on October 10. During the festivities, the Guidebook Edition of Metaphor: ReFantazio was announced, which will be released in early 2026. This digital bundle includes the base game, digital art book, digital soundtrack, the Essential Digital Strategy Guide, and two DLC costume sets: the Jouin High School uniform set, inspired by Shin Megami Tensei 5, and the Shujin Academy School uniform set, based on Persona 5. Notably, the Essential Digital Strategy guide has been pulled from the full physical game guide published by Future Press, and will offer a walkthrough of the game's first arc and an optimized schedule. Those who own the Atlus 35th Digital Anniversary edition of Metaphor: ReFantazio will get a copy of the guide at no additional cost.
While this new edition is being well-received by fans, many are frustrated that the recent livestream didn't confirm Metaphor: ReFantazio's rumored Switch 2 port. Several leaks implied that the title would be announced for Nintendo's new system during the July Nintendo Direct, but this wasn't the case, with Atlus instead confirming that Persona 3 Reload would be heading to the Switch 2 instead.
Given the game's incredibly positive reception, it's no surprise that a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel is currently being considered by Atlus. In a survey sent out by the developer in August, players were asked if they would be interested in a follow-up to the 2024 Game of the Year nominee, and the game's director has also stated that he would like to turn Metaphor: ReFantazio into a series "someday."
