Grand Trad is the main city of Euchronia in Metaphor: ReFantazio and is also one of the cities that players will get free time in while completing the first major mission of the game. While the main goal while in town is to stop the Necromancer, there are various side quests to complete, such as getting the Breath Of Fresh Air.

For those who reach Wisdom rank 2, Brigitta, the Igniter Shop owner, has a side quest that takes players to another dungeon that is tied specifically for that side quest. At the end of the dungeon is the target of your hunt, the Grotesque Guptauros, and it's no pushover.

Preparing For The Grotesque Guptauros In Metaphor: ReFantazio

  • Protagonist - Seeker
  • Strohl - Warrior
  • Hulkenberg - Knight

First, make sure the Protagonist's Seeker knows Tarukaja, which it learns at Rank Four. Next, use real-time combat to rank up the Mage to level two for both Strohl and the Protagonist to learn the spell Blizz. Using Skill Inheritance at Akademia, transfer over Blizz to both of the Archetypes they will be using for the battle. These can also be replaced with Ice Chunks, though there is nowhere to purchase those in the dungeon.

Focus on boosting your party's endurance and defense with armor and accessories as high as possible, because this boss hits very hard. While not a necessity, getting Media with the Healer and transferring it over to Hulkenberg's Knight offers a great full-party healing spell to counter the boss' full-party attacks.

Do NOT have a Mage or Healer Archetype equipped as they will send the boss into a rage and make the fight nearly impossible.

How To Beat Grotesque Guptauros In Metaphor: ReFantazio

The Grotesque Guptauros has a weakness to Ice and Pierce.

Your key to this fight is Hulkenberg's Jump Thrust Synthesis attack as it will hit the boss' weakness, deal a ton of damage, and also lower its defense for three turns. This can also be stacked up to three times to further increase the damage done, with the protagonist also using Tarukaja on Hulkenberg to greatly increase the overall damage done. Despite having the Warrior equipped, Strohl's main purpose will be to use Blizz and get additional Press Turn icons, while also healing whenever necessary.

The Protagonist will also have Blizz and should aim to get additional Icons to make sure Hulkenberg has two to use Jump Thrust. The boss fights in a pattern, with the first two turns having a range of either single-target attacks or a full-party attack, but every third turn will be the same. The Grotesque Guptauros will dispel any debuffs, specifically those from Jump Thrust, and Charge up, greatly increasing the damage of the next attack.

When you see this, have the Protagonist and Strohl use Blizz while Hulkenberg uses a basic attack, then have all three of them guard for the incoming high-damage attack. Your priority every turn should be to get off a Jump Thrust to deal damage and maintain the lowered defense while further building it up, with a secondary objective of buffing Hulkenberg's attack with the Protagonist. Keep this up and fully revive anyone who goes down and the boss won't last long.
