Much like the Persona series, Metaphor: ReFantazio has its own form of social stats known as Royal Virtues. There are five in total, Wisdom, Tolerance, Eloquence, Imagination, and Courage, all of which are important for progressing various bonds with your companions.
Each Royal Virtue will need to be maxed out in order to finish every bond, but there is still an ideal order that players can stick to in order to maximize their free time, especially on the Gauntlet Runner. While this list will focus on which Royal Virtues to focus on, it's best to keep them as even as possible once you reach the mid and late game.

Metaphor: ReFantazio has many party members who will join the protagonist during his journey; here's exactly how many you'll get to choose between.
Which Royal Virtue Should You Rank Up First In Metaphor: ReFantazio
It's important to know that not all Royal Virtues require the same amount of points to max out, meaning some will require less work than others. There are many activities you'll complete naturally while playing various sections of the game, so your free time on the Gauntlet Runner is always an important choice. When you first start out the game, you should focus on getting your Wisdom to rank 2 right away.
This allows you to unlock Brigitta's bond and a useful dungeon to grind at before taking on the first main boss of the game. You'll also want to start working on your Imagination and try to get it to rank 2 before reaching the second town, as another missable follower requires that rank. There are only two followers that require Royal Virtues to unlock their bond, and focusing on those Royal Virtues right away will have you ready to unlock them once you find them.

MP management is a key factor in dungeon exploration in Metaphor: ReFantazio; here's how to recover MP easily.
Royal Virtue Priority Ranking In Metaphor: ReFantazio
While it's important to try and keep your Royal Virtues fairly even, the following list should be the order you focus on most, with it mostly based on how much more work is required to rank up that Virtue.
While Courage isn't the easiest Virtue to rank up, it is awarded every time you clear a bounty or a rank in the Arena, meaning you'll get lots of points for this virtue without devoting Gauntlet Runner free time to it.
There are many books you'll get as the game progresses that can be read while the Gauntlet Runner is moving, and those should all be read as soon as they appear no matter where their Virtue appears on the above list. Books can also be read even after they are finished, giving you ways of increasing any Virtue while the Gauntlet Runner is moving no matter what party members are available.
