Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will have slightly different file sizes on the Switch and Switch 2, according to updated listings from Nintendo. While the digital download version of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will require approximately 29 GB on the original Switch, the Switch 2 Edition will only require slightly more storage space by comparison.

The upcoming title from Nintendo and Retro Studios is a release that many gamers have waited nearly two decades for. Picking up some time after the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond takes place on the mysterious planet Viewros, which was once the home of an alien race called the Lamorn. As Samus finds her way across Viewros, the enigmatic Sylux continues his long-standing grudge against both Samus and the Galactic Federation. Previews of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond indicated that the game's first-person shooter controls are as responsive as ever, and that enemies will keep fights dynamic and unpredictable.

However, players looking to download Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on their Nintendo consoles should set aside sufficient storage space in advance. The Nintendo eShop listing for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was updated weeks before the game's December 4 launch. Original Switch users will need approximately 28.9 GB of storage space to play the game, while the Switch 2 Edition of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will have a slightly higher space requirement. Switch 2 users must have 31.6 GB of storage space available, making the difference between the two versions an estimated 2.7 GB. The extra space for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is likely due to features like playing at 120 FPS on a supported 1080p display, though the game can also run at up to 4K and 60 FPS in docked mode.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will also support using the Joy-Con 2 controllers in mouse mode, giving Switch 2 players more control over Samus' movements. While the file size of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is not the largest of the Switch 2's more recent game releases, it is also far from the smallest. By comparison, Pokemon Legends: Z-A's installation size is 7.7 GB on the Switch 2, while Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment requires 43.4 GB of storage space.

Although the Switch 2 comes with 256 GB of system storage, a microSD Express card is recommended for players looking to enjoy multiple titles on the Switch 2. As rumors about Metroid Prime's future continue circulating on social media, it remains to be seen how many units Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will sell once December rolls around.
