Complete Fury Green & Volt Forge First:

Before you can begin your quest to find and unlock the Fire Shot upgrade in Metroid Prime 4, you'll first need to complete the game's opening dungeon, Fury Green, as well as the next main dungeon, Volt Forge.

Once you complete Volt Forge – or at least as much of Volt Forge as you can complete on your first visit – you'll be set free into Sol Valley, the semi-open world desert region that was at the center of much of the game's marketing. Like most Metroid games , you'll have the appearance of freedom. As for what you can actually do next after Volt Forge, you'll really only have one true option.

While you can technically return to Fury Green and collect the few items made available by the new Psychic Boots and Psychic Bomb. However, you'll need to return to Fury Green after you visit Flare Pool to collect the Fire Chip anyway, so it is worth it to wait until you have the Fire Shot to return the game's first main dungeon.

How to Get the Fire Chip in Metroid Prime 4:

MP4-Flare-Pool-Map-1

Unlike previous Metroid games, you will not simply unlock a new weapon while exploring a new dungeon. Instead, you'll first need to find a data chip that holds the schematics for that new weapon. In this case, the Fire Chip data can be found at the Flare Pool dungeon, which is located in the southeast corner of the overworld map.

Once you reach Flare Pool, use the Vi-O-La cycle on the spinner platform to access the main entrance. After you enter, there will really only be one path you can follow, which leads to a cutscene in which Samus attempts to cross a bridge. A mysterious figure – presumably Sylax – causes the bridge to collapse, forcing Samus to retreat.

You will not yet have the ability to cross the lava below the bridge, so you'll be forced to leave Flare Pool until you get an upgrade to Samus' suit. However, when you leave the main chamber, you'll see that a previously locked door is now open, and robot enemies emerge from it. Defeat the enemies, then head through the door and follow the path to it's end.

At the end of the path, you'll come to a large chamber with a crane whose arm is hanging out over the central area. At the tip of the crane you should see a red glowing light. If you look around the room, you'll see platforms that will allow you to jump on the the back of the crane's body.

Once you are on top of the crane, use the Morph Ball and Psychic Bombs to enter the small path that leads to the tip of the crane. At the tip, use a Pyschic Bomb once more to cause the machinery at the end to drop. When this happens, you'll see a brief cutscene that shows the glowing item has broken free.

Approach the glowing item and interact with it. Doing so will reward Samus with the Fire Chip, the key component needed to unlock the Fire Shot. Now, leave Flare Pool and you'll get a message from Myles telling you to return to base camp at Fury Green.

If you look at the map, you'll see a small flag icon where Myles is located. Head to this chamber and simply turn over the chip to Myles. He will then unlock the Fire Shot, which will provide access to far more areas on the map.

How to Get Past Fire Blockers & Webbing in Metroid Prime 4:

Once you have the Fire Shot weapon, you'll simply need to shoot a single shot from the weapon into the Fire Blocker lock or webbing. They will instantly burn away, allowing access to whatever they were blocking.
