Once Samus enters the Snowfield, numerous Snow Wolves will surround her in what feels like an endless battle. It turns out that you actually don't need to defeat each one, even though that's what it feels like the game wants you to do. You just need to simply survive for a couple of minutes until a cutscene happens, bringing the fight to an end.

We won't spoil exactly what happens so you can see it play out yourself, but someone in the Ice Belt will come to Samus' aid, getting rid of the wolves. So you just need to use your Fire Shots and regular missiles and dodge the ongoing attacks until help arrives.

The Logbook entry for the Snow Wolf describes the creature as a "carnivorous quadruped living in the frigid regions of the Ice Belt. A pack hunter that surrounds its prey, its cold natural habitat makes it ill-suited to warm climates."
