Rumor: Metroid Prime 4 Release Date Leaked

According to the latest rumors, it seems as though the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release date may potentially be Thursday, September 18. Metroid Prime 4 was one of the first games ever announced for the original Switch, unveiled all the way back in the summer of 2017. A couple of years later, Nintendo made the shock announcement that it had decided to reboot development on the game, with original Metroid Prime trilogy developer Retro Studios taking over for Bandai Namco.

After it was announced that Metroid Prime 4 development was being restarted, news on the game was hard to come by. All fans had to go on at that point was a work-in-progress logo and little else until 2024, when Nintendo finally released the first full-blown trailer for the game, revealing gameplay, story details, and its Beyond subtitle. A release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond still has not been announced in an official capacity at the time of this writing, but if the latest rumor is to be believed, fans could be playing the game in a matter of weeks.

Metroid fans should take this with a massive grain of salt, but Reddit user SHoulderAdvanced6854 pointed out how Russian retailer Videoigr had listed a September 18 release date for Metroid Prime 4. If this release date is accurate, it would mean a super quick turnaround from when the game's release date is announced and when it drops. Leaks have suggested that Nintendo is hosting a Nintendo Direct in September to showcase upcoming games, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond included, and so one would imagine its release date would be announced at such a show.

Fans should keep their expectations in check before getting too excited about the potential September 18 release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. After all, Nintendo shadow dropped Metroid Prime Remastered a couple of years ago, and earlier this summer, some advertising for the game mistakenly stated it was "out now." It's possible Metroid Prime 4 is going to be shadow dropped as well, but it's also possible that there will be some time between the September 2025 Nintendo Direct and the game's release date.

Something that makes this rumor a little easier to believe is the fact that Nintendo doesn't have anything major lined up for September 2025 at the time of this writing. Nintendo likes to keep a cadence of about one exclusive release per month, give or take, and it seems like it would be a huge missed opportunity to skip September. October is already taken by Pokemon Legends: Z-A, while Kirby Air Riders is scheduled to launch in November. Perhaps Nintendo is looking to drop Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in December instead of September, but that remains to be seen. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what happens with the Metroid Prime 4 release date and if the leak is accurate.
