The Varia Suit is in an upgrade in Metroid Prime Remastered that players will obtain after defeating Flaahgra in the Chozo Ruins' Sunchamber. It allows Samus to withstand extreme heat, which makes it possible for fans to pass through entirely new areas. This walkthrough is here to provide more details on the new areas that players should target after getting the Varia Suit in Metroid Prime Remastered, and it will help fans reach the game's next power-up: the Boost Ball.
To note, this guide will presume that the reader obtained the Charge Beam in Metroid Prime Remastered before battling Flaahgra. Fans that have not yet picked up that important upgrade are advised to make their way to the Chozo Ruins' Watery Hall and return to this guide when they have the Charge Beam in hand.
Metroid Prime Remastered: Where to Go After Flaahgra (Varia Suit)
Upon beating Flaahgra in Metroid Prime Remastered and collecting the Varia Suit, players should make their way into Sun Tower Access, which will ultimately lead them to the Sun Tower. Here, fans should drop and scan the Chozo Lore on the wall before using the door to reach Transport to Magmoor Caverns North.
There is an elevator in this room that players can take to reach the Magmoor Caverns, and indeed that is the next point-of-interest. However, before Metroid fans use this elevator, it is recommended that they grab several collectibles that are nearby within the Chozo Ruins. Here are details on how to obtain those collectibles, and players that are not interested in them can simply hop on the elevator and skip ahead to the "Magmoor Caverns" section below:
Fans of action-adventure video games that are looking to pick up the Chozo Ruins collectibles should begin by using the door on the left side of Transport to Magmoor Caverns North to reach Vault Access. This hallway will lead players to the Vault, and there is a Chozo Lore entry on the wall and a Missile Expansion in a metal cage that is situated in the center of the room. To open this cage, players must place Morph Ball Bombs in the three illuminated holes that appear on one of its sides.
This process begins by placing Morph Ball Bombs in front of the bottom and middle circles in order to destroy their coverings. This will allow players to enter and place Morph Ball Bombs inside the circles, and they will need to use Metroid Prime Remastered's Morph Ball to jump into the middle one. To reach the highest circle, players will need to perform an aerial Morph Ball Bomb jump by following these steps:
- Morph Ball jump and place a Morph Ball Bomb in the air.
- Morph Ball jump just as the aerial Bomb is about to explode.
- If the timing is right, the explosion will give Samus an additional boost into the highest circle.
After collecting the Missile Expansion in the Vault, players should pass through Plaza Access to reach an Energy Tank that is on a ledge overlooking the Main Plaza. Fans should then make their way through the door that is across the Main Plaza and follow the path until they reach the Ruined Nursery. There is a Morph Ball puzzle embed into one of this room's walls, and there is a Missile Expansion at its end. Notably, players must jump from the ground into the bottom of the maze and Morph Ball Bomb the sandstone block before they can complete it.
Fans should now advance to the Ruined Gallery and look at the wall to the right. There is a tunnel embedded into this wall, and Metroid Prime Remastered players can enter it in Morph Ball form to reach a Missile Expansion. Fans should then shoot a Missile at the wall under the door that leads to Totem Access to reveal yet another Missile Expansion. These are the final collectible to target during this section, and players can now return to Transport to Magmoor Caverns North and ride the elevator.
Magmoor Caverns
After descending into Magmoor Caverns, players should drop at the Burning Trail and make sure to use the Save Station in the hallway. Fans of classic Metroid games must then advance through the Lake Tunnel and the first half of Lava Lake. At the end of this first half, players will see some crates, which they should Morph Ball Bomb to reveal a tunnel that will allow them to reach the end of the room.
Players will now find themselves in the Pit Tunnel, and they must use Morph Ball to get under the grate and cross. Notably, there are Triclops under this grate, which Metroid Prime Remastered's Samus Aran can try to avoid or dispatch with Morph Ball Bombs.
The Triclops Pit is on the other side of the Pit Tunnel, and players should drop off the ledge that they encounter and turn around to find an alcove. There is a tunnel within this alcove that can be entered in Morph Ball form, allowing fans to get under the room's grate and reach a tunnel that leads to the Storage Cavern. There is a Missile Expansion to be found there, and again fans should be cautious when navigating around the Triclops.
Players should now return to the Triclops Pit's entrance and use the elevated platforms to reach the Monitor Tunnel. This hallway will take fans to the Monitor Station, and they should use Missiles in Metroid Prime Remastered to carefully dispatch the turrets attached to the central building. Players can then use platforms situated around the perimeter of the room to reach a bridge that leads to Transport Tunnel A.
Transport Tunnel A is a Morph Ball section, and players can grab an Energy Tank within it before advancing. To reach this collectible, fans must perform a series of aerial Morph Ball Bomb jumps, the first of which is to be executed immediately upon entering the room. With this new Energy Tank acquired, players should continue forward and use the elevator to Phendrana Drifts North.
Phendrana Drifts
After the ascent into Metroid Prime Remastered's Phendrana Drifts is complete, players should work their way through Shoreline Entrance, using the Charge Beam to break ice obstacles as necessary. The Phendrana Shorelines are on the other side of this hallway, and there is a Save Station across from its entrance. Once a save has been made, fans should reenter the Shorelines and look to the right to find a circular gate.
After scanning this gate, players should hit it with a missile to gain access to a tunnel. This tunnel leads to an orange terminal, and scanning it will activate a door that is above. Players can reach that door by climbing the platforms above the Save Station, and it leads to Ice Ruins Access, where fans will encounter more ice obstacles to be destroyed with the Charge Beam in Metroid Prime Remastered.
With Ice Ruins Access in the rearview, players will find themselves in Ice Ruins East. Here, fans should cross the room and use the stairs to start their ascent. This climb will lead players to some rooftops, which they should jump across to reach a door leading to the Plaza Walkway. In this hallway, fans should make sure to scan an Ice Burrower and then advance to a position overlooking the Phendrana Shorelines.
Players should take a left from this position and use the door that they encounter to enter the Ruins Entryway, which they should pass straight through. Fans must then make their way to the back-right corner of Ice Ruins West and use the door to travel to the Canyon Entryway. This hallway leads to the Phendrana Canyon, a room where players will find their next power-up in Metroid Prime Remastered.
Upon entering Phendrana Canyon, players should drop and turn around to find one of Metroid Prime Remastered's Chozo Lore entries, which can be scanned. Fans should then drop once more and use the ramp on the right to reach a terminal. Scanning this terminal will cause a series of platforms to appear, which can be traversed to reach the Boost Ball upgrade.
Metroid Prime Remastered is available on the Nintendo Switch.
