Getting locked up by the villain is a Metal Gear series staple, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater faithfully recreates the prison cell from the original PS2 game. Metal Gear Solid Delta doesn't give you any hints about how to escape the prison cell, however, and it's easy to find yourself stuck at this part of the game.
Thankfully, there are quite a few ways to escape the Gronznyj Grad prison cell in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Some of them are pretty straightforward, but there are some truly creative solutions for those who have been paying close attention to the previous cutscenes. There's also a fan-favorite minigame from the original title that finally makes its return in MGS Delta. Here are all the ways to escape the prison cell in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
What is the Best Order to Play the Metal Gear Games?
Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear franchise is storied and complex, which may prompt newcomers to wonder what the best entry point is.
Make Snake Throw Up
One of the easiest ways to escape the Groznyj Grad prison cell in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is to make Snake vomit. To do so, open the cure menu as if you were going to extract a bullet or bandage a wound. Then, spin snake around for about 30 seconds.
After closing the menu, Snake will get dizzy and throw up on the prison floor. This will make the guard come inside to check on him, at which point you can take him out with CQC. Enjoy your freedom!
If you call Para-Medic to save your game while in the prison cell and then restart the game, you'll unlock a secret hack-and-slash minigame starring a character called Guy Savage.
Fake Death Pill
One of the most obvious ways to escape the prison cell in MGS Delta is to use the Fake Death Pill to force the guard to come inside and check on Snake. If you were paying attention in the previous cutscene, then you probably noticed that The Boss slipped Snake some equipment.
Open the cure menu, and you'll see a Transmitter and a Fake Death Pill stuffed into two of Snake's wounds. Use the Fork to remove them, then pop the Fake Death Pill to make the guard come inside the cell. When the door is open, simply use the Revival Pill to spring back to life and escape.
Secret Radio Frequency
Finally, there's a secret codec radio frequency that will unlock the cell door for you. There are two ways to learn this frequency. The first is to press R1/RB during one of the previous cutscenes. You'll see The Sorrow holding up a sign that reads "144.75" behind the other characters. Call that frequency on your radio, and the door will unlock.
You can also get the guard to give up this frequency himself via a secret cutscene. To trigger the cutscene, throw your food back at the guard whenever it's feeding time. Repeat this a few times and a cutscene will play. An R1/RB prompt will pop up so you can enter first-person mode, and you'll see "144.75" marked on the back of a photograph.
Once you're out of the prison cell, you'll have to make it out of Groznyj Grad without your equipment. You'll thankfully get everything back when you regroup with EVA shortly after, but this is one of the hardest parts of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Take it slow, and try to avoid combat for now.
