If you're trying to get the "I Caught a Shooting Star trophy" for Monster Hunter Wilds (or just working on Samin's Side Mission), you will need to find and capture a Sandstar. These cute little mouse-looking creatures can only be found in one specific locale in Monster Hunter Wilds, and this guide will show you where to find them and how to catch one in your Capture Net.
Sandstar Location in MH Wilds
There are a couple of things you need to know about the Sandstar before you go out and chase after it.
- It's a nocturnal creature, meaning it can only be found at night. If you don't know how to rest and change the time of day, please use this guide for more details.
- It's only found in the Windward Plains' desert areas (around ~ Area 11, 13, and 16)
- They are fast, but you can use Screamer Pods to slow them down. Otherwise, try to use your Ghillie Mantle to sneak up behind the creature while crouching, or use the speed of your mount to catch up to the Sandstar.
-
You can get
Screamer Pods
in the Windward Plains (they drop from Baunos in Areas 11 and 13).

How to Capture the Sandstar in MH Wilds
Once you're in the perfect position to catch the little sucker, equip your Capture Net by scrolling through the item bar with L1/LB. Then, press Square/X to Equip it. Then, shoot the net at the monster with R2/RT. Remember that you can shoot the net while riding on your Seikret, so make use of that if you feel like the Sandstar is not slowing down.
If you're having trouble spotting them in the desert areas, try sleeping and returning to the area later.
When the Sandstar is captured, players will earn the 'I Caught a Shooting Star' trophy/achievement.
