Michael C. Hall surprised Dexter fans back in August 2024, when he appeared at San Diego Comic Con to announce his return to the role of Dexter Morgan in a sequel series titled Dexter: Resurrection. The limited series, New Blood, supposedly wrapped up his story back in 2021, with Harrison Morgan shooting his serial killer father in the icy woods of Iron Lake in Upstate New York. However, New Blood became Showtime's biggest ever success, and the merger with Paramount saw the 'resurrection' of the iconic anti-hero. Fast-forward to January 2025, and shooting has commenced on the upcoming spin-off in New York, and Michael C. Hall was keen to update fans on how things were progressing:
Hey. What's up? It's Michael C. Hall. I am on the set for the first official day of production where Dexter: Resurrection is happening. I'm looking forward to taking another thrill ride, and when all is said and done, to you taking the ride with us. Stay tuned.
What Can Fans Expect From Dexter: Resurrection?
One of the complaints about New Blood was the lack of legacy characters in major roles alongside Dexter Morgan. It was understandable, as Dexter was living under the new name of Jim Lindsay, after faking his own death. Not to mention, a lot of characters from the original series perished in the original Dexter series. However, Debra Morgan returned as Dexter's Ghost, and Jack Alcott took on the role of Dexter's now teenage son, Harrison, and he'll reprise the role in the sequel series. David Zayas only appeared in a recurring role in New Blood, but fans were delighted to hear that he'll return as a series regular in Resurrection, as well as James Remar as Harry Morgan. Just this week, Uma Thurman signed up to star in Resurrection. Details have surfaced about Thurman's character, courtesy of Deadline:
Thurman will play Charley, the Head of Security for mysterious billionaire Leon Prater. A former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as the resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman for Prater.
Resurrection might also be set in New York, with filming currently underway in the Big Apple, though it hasn't been confirmed if it will actually be set there. Fans will find out for sure when the sequel series airs this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime. Many fans are keen to see Vince Masuka and Joey Quinn return to the fold, but nothing has been confirmed. As filming continues, there are bound to be leaks and more casting announcements to keep fans interested in the lead up to Resurrection's release.
