The publisher of Sifu, Microids, is releasing a completely different style of game called Melobot - A Last Song. Fans may remember Sifu as a beat-em-up, kung-fu action game praised by many for its intricate combat and stunning visual gameplay. Recently, the publisher announced a type of game that took some fans by surprise.

Microids is a French video game publisher that was founded in 1985. It specializes in adventure games, racing games, and retro gaming-inspired titles. It has worked with the developer Oddworld Inhabitants, known for its recent title, Oddword:Soulstorm an adventure platforming game. Microids has also published games known for their aesthetics, like the Syberia series with its Soviet-era setting. Microids' next project follows a high-quality aesthetic of its own and looks to be something different from everything it's released before.

A Sifu 2 Would Be Wise to Wield the Ferocity of Dev Patel’s Monkey Man

Monkey Man breathes rejuvenating life into gripping action cinema and its influence would hopefully be imparted to a Sifu sequel in the future.

Melobot - A Last Song is Microids' next release, developed by Anomalie Studio, a French video game studio based in Paris. This will be Anomalie’s first published game, with a second title called Above the Darkness listed on the developer's website still under active development. Melobot - A Last Song has rhythm game and adventure elements, which is a heavy departure from Microids’ previous game, Sifu, one of the best beat-em-ups of all time. Microids has never published a rhythm game before, and this will be its first venture into that untapped genre.

Melobot Is an Unexpected Departure From Microids' Past Work

This game features a small musical robot on a mission to save its planet from a deadly disease. The robot can utilize a number of instruments to match the tunes of various plant life and fight off mysterious mechanical beings hellbent on destruction. Playing along with a plant looks similar to learning a song in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. As notes scroll along a horizontal path, the player must match the inputs displayed on each note. Players can explore unique biomes filled with various flora and fauna, displayed in a stunning visual style.

Fans of Melobot’s beautiful art style inspired by Studio Ghibli movies, may not have to wait very long to play. Melobot - A Last Song releases on September 12, coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. There is a demo for those interested in trying the game on its Steam page, but it does not seem like it is available to try on other platforms. Whether a demo will come to those consoles is yet to be seen.
