Midnight Society has confirmed that its upcoming extraction shooter Deadrop is still on track for a 2024 release, despite the controversy with co-founder Dr. Disrespect. The game studio co-founded by the massively popular streamer officially revealed its first game in early 2022, with Midnight Society working on an online multiplayer FPS game. The studio officially confirmed its inaugural shooter would be set for release in 2024, though the release window came into question following the public controversy surrounding its co-founder. Now, however, Midnight Society has reaffirmed its officially scheduled release window.

Once standing as one of the most iconic and beloved streamers in gaming, Herschel "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm IV has found himself in hot water recently. Dr. Disrespect's long-disputed permanent ban from Twitch was once again brought into the spotlight as a former Twitch employee revealed his ban was related to "sexting a minor," a claim that the streamer would later confirm. The fallout from the controversy has seen Dr Disrespect dropped from multiple partnerships the streamer had enjoyed, including the game studio he helped to found. Midnight Society, however, is reportedly carrying on just fine without Doc.

Midnight Society's Deadrop Still Scheduled for 2024 Release

As reported by IGN, Midnight Society co-founder Robert Bowling confirmed in an interview with Bloomberg that Deadrop's release was still on track. Bowling confirmed that Deadrop is planned to launch in the fourth quarter of 2024, with its development unaffected by the controversy surrounding Dr. Disrespect. The founder also shared more about Dr. Disrespect's role with the studio, confirming his main goal was to "bring eyeballs and community" to the new game. Bowling also confirmed that Midnight Society has "raised $24 million" for the funding of Deadrop.

While Dr. Disrespect brought plenty of notoriety to Deadrop and Midnight Society, the game itself has not been without controversy. Midnight Society confirmed early on that Deadrop would feature an NFT-based Founder's Pass, awarding players with exclusive cosmetics and early builds of the game. Deadrop also drew early criticism shortly following its reveal for erroneously using an image from Cyberpunk 2077 on its official website, a mistake that was quickly amended by the studio's web developer.

With the controversy swirling around the streamer, Dr. Disrespect has largely disappeared from the public eye following the social media storm. The popular content creator has not streamed on YouTube in over a month, with the streamer also going quiet on his Twitter account. Fans have noticed a recent change to Dr. Disrespect's Twitter header, however, potentially teasing an upcoming return to streaming. Though Dr. Disrespect's legacy as a content creator will forever be marred by the controversy, Midnight Society looks to be carrying on just fine following his departure.
