Mignight Society has responded to former Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect's claims that he will return to the game studio. The streamer was one of the founding members of Midnight Society, but he was terminated after admitting that he sent messages to a minor via Twitch's Whisper function that he claims leaned towards inappropriate.

Dr Disrespect was hit with a permanent Twitch ban in 2020 due to an undisclosed reason, which led to him moving his streams to YouTube. Earlier this year, former Twitch staff Cody Conners claimed that Dr Disrespect was banned because he was caught "sexting a minor" on Twitch Whisper. The streamer didn't outright deny the accusations, saying that he sent inappropriate jokes to a minor. He subsequently lost several partnerships because of what he'd done, including the termination of his Midnight Society contract.

Midnight Society Denies Dr Disrespect's Return

Mere months after the controversy exploded, Dr Disrespect has been streaming again and trying to appeal his suspension from the YouTube Partner Program. In a recent stream, Dr Disrespect claimed that he plans to return to Midnight Society, which was why he hadn't removed the AAA studio's tag from his bio. However, a spokesperson for Midnight Society told Decrypt that the statement was a "baseless claim," further emphasizing that the company amicably parted ways with Dr Disrespect.

"We amicably parted ways with Dr Disrespect, and will always be appreciative of his contributions to the studio."

What Are Midnight Society's Plans After Terminating Dr Disrespect?

As of writing, Dr Disrespect has not responded to Midnight Society's denial, and still has the studio tagged in his Instagram bio. Despite the recent controversy, Midnight Society's spokesperson said that the studio is currently focused on releasing Deadrop, a free-to-play vertical extraction shooter, in 2025. Deadrop was originally slated for release this year, but was delayed after the studio faced several layoffs following the Dr Disrespect drama, which reportedly included 50% of the development team.

Midnight Society also previously received backlash after gamers found out that Deadrop used NFTs for its Founders Pass, which is a $50 package that gives players access to one-of-a-kind cosmetics and early access to game builds. Many people see NFTs as scams because they are allegedly being used to raise the capital of cryptocurrency, and because the energy used to generate them could be detrimental to the environment. It's still unknown if Midnight Society will continue using NFTs in the full release of Deadrop, and how it will affect the future of the extraction shooter.

Dr Disrespect Not Getting the Hint

Meanwhile, Dr Disrespect continues to face challenges of his own as he slowly returns to streaming and content creation. As mentioned, the streamer is reportedly trying to reapply for monetization after he was suspended from the YouTube Partner Program, preventing him from generating revenue through his content. It's still unknown if YouTube will grant his request, but the chances might be slim considering the gravity of the situation. Nevertheless, Dr Disrespect is back to livestreaming games on YouTube to thousands of viewers who stuck around despite the controversy.
